Hello I guess I'm back to updating after hmmm nearly 2 years? Better late than never right? lmao ; a more detailed author's note will come next update but for now - I figured this chapter was necessary to my old readers (and myself lmao I haven't looked at this in a hot minute) a lil summary before I post the next chappie 😳
Adele Davenport : the gal, the myth, the legend; this lovely protagonist has tried running away from home EIGHT times to escape her overbearing mother (Lucille) who wants her to find a husband at the age of 18
So mother dearest and Addy go to a ball to find a ~suitor~ enter Theodore Ashworth - he's charming (kinda), chauvinistic (yikes), and hella suspicious (100%) but he's also Adele's one way ticket to escaping her overbearing momma (btw her dad disappeared with no word, just left bags of money - *cough* refer to the prologue *cough*)
The ball is cool and all until Theo holds a gun to Adele's head cuz he thinks she's involved in a secret plot and then armed gunmen take over and rob everyone in the ballroom while holding a gun to the host's head (huh seems to be a recurring theme) - Adele manages to get away and finds Theo shooting at some woman (Sarah Smith) from behind a table. Adele (god bless her) tackles Sarah and stops Theo from shooting her. (Chapter 6 for reference - I recommend a reread for that one)
Fast forward and Theo has come to take Adele with him to the next town over (in exchange for her help) under the cover to her mom that they're going on a romantic trip lol
They get on a train and end up getting shot at (for reference - chapter 13/14); jump out of said train, get chased by a bull (one of my favorites tbh); Adele gets knocked unconscious; they ride horses into the nearest town (just a bunch of crazy stuff happens)
On the horse ride Adele finds a piece of paper in her box that ~wasn't there before~ detailing a map with the name Clark (from a secret organization Sarah Smith is part of - the Elmer Clark foundation) on it
They eventually get to a house, meet a mom and daughter duo; Adele gets offered some new clothes; Theo lies (what else is new? Smh) etc etc
Then they make it to the center of town, check into a place - Adele gets a cryptic note and, ladies and gents, I think that's where we left off
