Pains and joy

When Matt arrived in St.Lukes, he rushed to see Sarah. Daddy Delfin approached him and told him that Sarah is in the labor room.

Matt: Daddy, ano po ang nangyayari? (Looks worried)

DD: Nasa labor room pa si Sarah, Matt. They are doing NST to check the baby's status. Tumaas ang BP niya 170/100. Napuyat yata at iyak ng iyak kagabi.

Matt: Honestly Dy, hindi ko po alam if I really did something wrong but I can't forgive myself if something happens to Sarah and our baby.

MD: Don't blame yourself iho. Trials lang talaga ito and part yan ng hormonal changes pagbuntis medyo emotional. O, nandyan na si doctora.

Dra. Samson: Magandang gabi sa inyo. Matt, we need to admit Sarah. Napakaunstable ng blood pressure nya and she's having mild contractions. We'll observe muna if the BP does not go down we have to deliver the baby. The condition is known as preeclampsia. Ang pregnancy mismo ang cause ng BP elevation.

Matt: Pero doctora 7months pa lang po ang baby. Will he be able to make it?

Dra. Samson: A lot of preterm babies are able to survive but we have to keep him in an incubator muna until fully strong that he can make it on his own. It's a choice also for Sarah's safety. Ayaw ko pang umabot na sobrang taas ang BP nya na mag seizure or ikamatay nya pa.

Matt (tears form around his eyes): Just do what's best doctora. If I have to choose, I don't want to lose either of them (started to cry).

Dra. Samson: We'll do everything, Matt. She will be transferred in a private room but I have to limit 2 watchers only. I want Sarah to rest.

Matt (turns to Mommy Divine and Daddy Delfin): My, Dy, ako na muna dito. Maybe you should go home muna at makapahinga.

MD (crying): Sige iho. Update mo lang kami. Papuntahin ko si Johna dito para may kasama ka.

Matt: Kahit d na po. Giorgia is on her way.

Sarah was sleeping soundly when brought to her room. Matt stayed by her side and held her hand.

Matt (crying): Love, I'm sorry. I don't want to lose you (kisses her hand) and our baby. Be strong ok?

Giorgia: Kuya, how's ate? (As she enters) Si Mama and Papa are also worried.

Matt (wipes his tears): She's under observation. May nilagay na sila na medicine through IV drip. If the BP doesn't go down they have to deliver the baby.

Giorgia: Everything will be ok, Kuya (pats his back). Do you need anything? Have you eaten?

Matt: No, but I'm not hungry.

Sarah wakes up....

Sarah: Matt? Giorgia? Saan sila Mommy?

Matt (smiles and kisses her forehead): Umuwi muna sila, Love. I'm really sorry. Please bati  na tayo. May headache ka pa ba?

Giorgia: Hello ate. Rest well muna.

Sarah: Our baby? (Touches her belly)

Matt: He's ok. The doctor said you're still under observation if BP not controlled they

have to deliver our baby.

Sarah (looks worried): But Mahal, 7months pa lang sya?

Matt: It's for your safety also, at sabi ni doctora good chance of survival na ang 7months. He has to stay in the incubator lang.

Sarah: I don't know Love. I want him to be safe rather than me. Kahit ako na ang mamatay (cries)

Matt (also crying hugs Sarah): Shhh.. Don't say that Love. You will both be ok (kisses her hair) In God's grace, pray lang tayo. Hush now. Bawal ka mastress. You have to rest. I'll be right here beside you.
