Chapter 5

Itachi

"It's over." Akira said, and I watched as her body collapsed to the ground. I was still in amazed by the last move she made. It was too powerful to have done without hand signs. I wanted to go to her, but I knew I could not risk showing emotion in front of these people. I kept my face emotionless to hide the worry. The others were clearly as shocked as I was, Kisame was practically grinning. Then Pein stood up and jumped down and the rest of us followed. He walked over to the two bodies. Both of their chests were rising and falling, they were alive.

"She is powerful." stated Pein. Looking up at me, he nodded his head. "She may join the Akatsuki." Konan came forth, folding an Akatsuki cloak, with distinct crimson clouds. On top on the cloak sat a ring. On it was the symbol Kū, meaning void. It was Orochimaru's ring before he was defected. "Konan, bandage her wounds and Itachi, look after her. When she has healed, I have another mission for you." Konan handed me the cloak. "Kakuzu, fix up Hidan." With that, he turned and headed out of the room.

Once Pein had left, I handed Kisame the cloak and bent down to inspect Akira's wounds. They were deep and she was losing blood fast. I picked her up and stood up. Kakuzu just slung Hidan's body over his shoulder. "Dang, she is strong." whispered Deidara, looking at Akira. "Nice pick, Itachi." I nodded my head and quickly walked out of the room, down the corridors to my room. Kisame and Konan followed me.

Once I opened the door and placed her body on my bed, Kisame placed the cloak on the table. We both stood back silently. Konan looked at Kisame and me and raised an eyebrow. "Leave, so I can bandage her wounds." We nodded and went outside into the corridor.

"What kind of jutsu was that, Itachi? Was it a juinjutsu that she used? Wait, no, she never even place a seal on Hidan." said Kisame, folding his arms across his chest.

"I am not sure myself." I replied, closing my eyes. No seal, no hand sign, how could she do it? She has gotten much stronger over the years. It's just sad I wasn't there to watch her.

After about thirty minutes, Konan opened the door and stepped out. "She's stabilized. She stopped bleeding, but a good amount of blood was lost. Just give her some time to heal up." I thanked her and with a nod of her head, she left.

"I guess I'll head back to my room." sighed Kisame and picked up his sword.

I nodded goodbye to my partner and opened the door to my room and stepped in. I closed the door and went over to the bed. Akira was asleep under the covers.I lifted the covers to inspect Konan's handiwork. Akira was covered from chest to waist in bandages. Her left leg was also covered. I pulled up a chair and sat beside her. After a few minutes of watching her, sleep finally overcame me and my dreams drifted to my childhood.

The sun was setting over Konoha. I was only eight years old at the time. My mother came to pick me from the academy and we were walking home. On the way, we passed by the village park and there were children everywhere, playing. "Mother, can I play?"

"No, Itachi, you have to do your homework." My mother said, tugging my hand. I frowned, but complied.

We walked by the swing set and there was a little girl sitting alone on the swings, reading a book. I recognized the girl. She was my classmate at the academy, the only one to have grades near mine. She was an orphan and was often ignored by everyone else. I looked at my mother and nodded towards the girl. "That girl, why is she always ignored in class? No one ever wants to play with her."

My mother stopped to look at the girl and frowned. "That's not very nice. The poor girl has already been through tough times. Her parents were great shinobis that died protecting the village. Her parents were very well respected." I looked at the girl and looked back to see my mother smiling.
