The next day I entered Eli's room cautiously. I wanted to be prepared for flying objects, but when I looked over to his bed he was smiling.
"What's your name gorgeous?" Eli smirked, and I knew he was my frisky Eli all over again.
"Hi Eli, my name is Samantha and i'm your nurse." I walked up to his bed, "You look happy today."
"I just had a beautiful woman walk into my room, of course i'm happy." Eli laughed, "Just don't tell my girlfriend Krista or she'll kill me.
And just like that the knife permanently embedded in my heart twisted.
I checked his vitals, "Do you want a sponge bath today or a shower?" I asked him, removing his catheter.
"Why can't I move my legs?" Eli looked down at me while I was undressing him.
Here we go, the part I always dread.
'You were in a car accident 9 years ago Eli." I said, then walked over to the bathroom to get all the supplies I needed for a sponge bath and to shave his beard. "You had damage to your spine causing you to be paralyzed from the waist down and trauma to your head causing you to lose your short term memory."
"So what does that mean?" Eli asked as I started to sponge him down.
"It means, you don't remember anything after the accident, you keep living in the past." I said towel drying his chest, "You can't retain memories of your day to day life, so everyday I have to remind you of this."
"That sounds tedious." Eli said touching my face gently while i slathered shaving cream on his over grown stubble. "How long have you had to remind me of this."
"Since we were 16. Right after your accident." I started to shave him, "It started out as volunteer hours for graduation, then i just kept coming to keep you company. I decided to go to nursing school locally so I could take care of you."
Eli reached his hand up to stop my hand from shaving him.
"Why would you dedicate your life to me?" He asked while doing circular motions on my wrist with his thumb.
"Because you don't remember any of our life Eli, but I remember everything." I continued to shave him again, "I love you Eli and if I have to remind you everyday for 100 years I will, and i'll never complain about it, because each day with you is a gift."
Eli moved his face so fast towards mine and kissed me passionately. He got shaving cream all over my face but i didn't care, because when Eli kisses me, it feels like floating on air, and i hate coming down from that high.
"I'm so drawn to you and I just met you." Eli started to wipe the shaving cream off my face and chuckled, "I want to take you somewhere, or I want you to take me somewhere since i'm guessing I can't drive."
"Where do you want to go?" I asked him cleaning everything up.
"To my favorite spot on the beach. I've never brought anyone there before." Eli gave me his million watt smile, "I want you to tell me about our life together."
"Okay. Let me just put the new catheter in and get you dressed." I said pointing the catheter to his penis.
"Woo there baby, how about you buy me dinner first before you play with my dick." Eli laughed out loud.
"You and that dumb dad joke." I said laughing, "I don't put the catheter in when i want to play with your dick." I winked at him and his eyebrows shot up.
"How often do you play with my dick?" Eli whispered as his hand found the back of my neck.
"Whenever you ask Eli, I told you i'm dedicated to you." I said as his hand started pushing my head down towards his dick.
"Let me see how dedicated you are?" Eli said as my lips went around him and he sucked in a deep breath. "Fuck baby that feels so good. Just like that baby." Eli grabbed my hair with both hands and started moving my head up and down. "Thank God my dick still works, I can't imagine never feeling your mouth on me." He started pushing my head up and down faster and faster until he twitched inside my mouth and shot his load down my throat. "I'm sorry, I should have asked if it was alright to release inside your mouth."
"You've done it plenty of times before Eli, probably because when you come inside me you normally get me pregnant." I laughed but it hurts to think about our kids. He'll never remember them.
"No fucken way, I've gotten you pregnant before?" Eli asked with a shocked expression on his face.
"You'll read all about it at the beach." I told him then took out his memory journal from his nightstand draw.
