(5) The Pain

Skye POV.

"Skye!" I heard Chad calling out for me, making me turn around and greeted him with a smile.

"Chad, hey" I said, greeting him a small smile on my face.

"Skye, have you eaten your lunch? If not, then let's eat together." He said jogging up to me.

"Sorry Chad, I'm so busy that I don't even have time to rest." I said to him

"But it's better if you take a rest, you look tired." He said, but I keep protesting saying I have to finish the job.

"Look Skye, your pulse is irregular. You face also look pale." He said

"Why is it that no one knows about your condition?" He ask

"Chad there's no need to tell anyone about my condition. Because if a nurse is sick, they get a sick leave. So please don't tell anyone." I beg him

Right before he could protest, he was interrupted by Jacob. "Have you administered Mr. Dominic his anti-coagulant drug?" He ask me

"No" I said, looking wearily at the ground.

"That should have been done, an hour ago." He yelled at me

"Sorry, I'm really slow at doing it." I said

"But you still have time to chit chat with guys." He said with a straight face

"I'll do it right away." I said, turning away and pushing a cart full of medicine to the east wing, of sick elder's and that are under the hospital's care."I'll try to check other patient's card during the regular patrol." I said

"You will be sorry if you put any of my patient in danger." He said in such a hard tone.

Jacob POV.

After Skye made her way, I also went to till her friend made me stop walking by cutting of in front of me.

"Wait, a minute!" Skye friend said to make stop me, "There's a lot of patients at that intensive care unit today, so Skye have been working non-stop today." He reasons

"You, Thompson are a specialist from the medical care, right." I said looking at his name tag.

"Yes,and I am also Skye's friend." He said, then continued "Can't you see, Skye's condition?"

"Ha! She is the last person on this world I want to see or save." I said, making my way to the OR section.

Skye POV.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I hear my alarm, but my body feels so numb, it's so difficult for me to breath.

I was reaching my phone and reach for me me to take a sick leave for work today. After hanging up the phone, hanging up the phone my chest began to feel tight and getting more harder to breath.

If this continue maybe I will die...... If this continue....... In this room alone...... I'm scared.....

When I walk up the next morning my heart was still functioning. So I got ready for work.

As I made my way outside it was raining. "Its almost summer, but the rain felt like it's still winter." I said aloud, frustrated about the weather.

I was on my way to the bus stop when I heard a whimper at an alley just next to my apartment. I went to check behind some boxes and saw a puppy soaking wet.

"Ah! What happened to you, being thrown away? If you stay in the street you'll die." I said, showing so much compassion to the little pup.

I let it set under my coat and made my way back to my apartment. "Shhh. This apartment doesn't really allowed pets." I said to the little pup, putting a bowl of milk on the floor for him to feed.

"So adorable." I said drying the little pup up with a washcloth. "I have to go to work. Be a good boy while I'm good, OK." I said to the pup.

I look down to my risk watch saying it was 7:05 a.m. "oh, nooo. I'm late for work!" I said, hurrying out the door to the bus stop.

'Luckily I manage to catch it.' I told myself.

Then suddenly I felt a shock of pain that I've never felt before.

Suddenly, what Dr. Carter said to me about, that if my valve break one more time, maybe it will be useless to bring me to the hospital, finally occurred back to me.

"Kyaaaa!" I scream in pain. "Ahhhhhhh!"
