After a while, Kester went back into Mazer's hospital room.
Upon stepping into the room, Mazer said,"Well I'm glad you're here. At least I have a racing geek to entertain me and keep me company."
Kester just smiled and stared and him.
"Now what are you going to do? Have you thought of where to go? How to make a living?"
Kester just shook his head sadly.
"Have you thought of racing?" Mazer asked. Kester looked up at him and said, "Yes, but I don't think I'm cut out for it. And besides, I'm happy as a racing engineer."
Mazer looked at him thoughtfully and asked,"How would you know you can't be a good racer if you have never tried?"
Kester has never thought about that. But he never tried because he was afraid of crashing.
"I think you'd make a good racer, trust me."
"I don't know..." Kester said. "What if I mess up? What if I crash like you? And I don't have any racing experience. "
"Don't worry, the chances of crashing aren't that high. Besides, I could coach you if you wanted." Mazer reassured him.
"Really!?" Kester was surprised Mazer was willing to teach him. Kester thought about it for awhile. "Maybe I will inform you of my desicion tomorrow."
Kester went home and thought about it for a long, long time. Should I try to race?
