Spanner was not unpleasant to the eyes, but was unpopular with the ladies. He hated noises and found most people to be undeniably unpleasant to be around. He had always put his education first and was one of the finest detectives in the area, always dressed in the finest clothes. This was not his choice of venue, but he had to do this to keep his buds at work off his back. He had noticed a mutual friend upon walking into the bar so he knew that the word would get around that he had gone out. Oh, woe to him to be forced into such a social setting! He had wanted to leave more than anything.

I had only agreed to do this to avoid another psychiatric evaluation from the company. “All work and no play makes Spanner a dull boy” my boss told me. Fine! I’ll agree to go out, but no promises that I’ll stay long. I saw James and Gary in the bar. Boss must have sent them to follow me to make sure I’d follow that promise.

I can’t stand all this noise. These people are so pathetic in their moans about life. I should leave. I get up from my bar stool to leave, but I see the most magnificent woman stroll right on in. I would just love to touch her hair and caress her face. I’m lost in dreaming about this. She sees me staring at her and comes up to me abandoning her date, James. She’s smiling at me in the most delicious way.

James is looking pretty resentful at me for a few seconds, but then he orders his usual gin and tonic. “Don’t mind him” Maria whispers in my ear. I can’t get over the feeling of her so close to my neck. I can’t believe I forgot about Alison being in this bar too. I forgot that she was supposed to be my date. I imagine for a few seconds the anger she must be feeling, but I can’t be bothered as I put my arm around Maria’s waist.

James has been tailing Spanner since they left the office. He was ordered by their boss to ensure that Spanner took some time to himself. The boss had suggested a bar knowing that Spanner hated loud noises and hated crowds of people. The place wouldn’t have that many people nor loud noises. James had called and asked for his close friend to come to the bar as well. Maria would never miss out on a chance at a bar. She loved the scene and he wanted the company.

He was a bit surprised to see Gary in the bar too, but Gary was a lurker in such bars. There’s no way the boss sent him too, right? Finally Maria was arriving, but he saw her eyes immediately dart to Spanner. She walked toward James, but halfway through this stroll decided to go to Spanner. Her hips were just swaying in that manner that said she had found her flirt for tonight.
