She's a banished Pop Troll with a crew of 8 Glitter Trolls. A long time ago, when she was a teenager, she wanted to steal all of the Pop Trolls' troll gems for her gem collection. But after teen Branch mistook her shadow for a Bergen, he picks a sharp purple gem and throws it directly into Shantae's left eye. The impact on her eye made her scream in pain, and the other trolls caught up to her. After Branch is hailed as a hero, King Peppy banishes Shantae Gem from Pop Village along with her gang of menacing glitter trolls. She's also a follower of Censorero, the God of Silence, and she wants music gone, so Trolls can have eternal pain as she had with the gem in her eye.

She is a strong-minded young woman. A fearless, ambitious, independent, flirtatious, greedy, calculating narcissist who most people see as only caring for herself, her crew, gold, and gems. She wants revenge on the Pop Trolls for banishing her, and Branch for thwarting her plan to steal the Troll Gems and gem stuck in her left eye. She does want vengeance on Branch, but she and her crew fell victim to his good looks, so she's not sure if she wants to kill him or not.
Meet Captain Jewel Eye's Crew. Eight glitter Pop trolls who are bad girls like vandalism, reckless pranks, and destroying music equipment.
Ruby- (voiced by Jill Talley) A red glitter troll with a peg-leg right foot after wrestling an alligator with red eyes and hair. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's first mate.
Sapphire- (voiced by Catherine Taber) A blue glitter troll with an eye patch on her right eye, and also blue eyes and hair. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's quartermaster and third in command.
Jade- (voiced by Liliana Mumy) A green glitter troll with a hoot to replace her left hand, and also green and hair. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's sailing master.
Spinel- (voiced by Nika Futterman) A pink glitter troll with pink eyes and hair, and wears a black bandana around her neck. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's gunner and plays the mandolin.
Topaz- (voiced by Cristina Pucelli) A yellow glitter troll with yellow eyes and hair, and she has a scar on her left cheek. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's powder monkey and plays a fiddle.
Garnet- (voiced by Jessica DiCicco) A orange glitter troll with orange eyes and hair, and she has her crew's symbol on her right arm. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's boatswain and plays a fife.
Amethyst- (voiced by Grey Griffin) A purple glitter troll with purple eyes and hair, and she wears chalcedony earrings. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's surgeon and plays the concertina.
Pearl- (voiced by Lara Jill Miller) A white glitter troll with grey eyes and white hair, and she wear a necklace made of skulls of the animals she cooked for her crew. She's Cpt. Jewel Eye's cook.
