At the end of the rainy season in April, with the continuous spring rain, the streets were wet. Yang Minhua turned the steering wheel and backed out of the parking lot after receiving his parking pass.
He had made plans with his college roommate to have dinner, and the restaurant happened to be near his roommate's workplace. He arrived half an hour earlier than his roommate and waited outside by the stairs, checking his watch as the time approached.
There weren't many people coming out of the building at this time, but a young man walked towards him. The young man was wearing a white shirt and dark gray pants, with a brown knitted sweater over them. He looked like a college student, and as he walked, he was engrossed in his phone. It was clear that he was a recent graduate who had just entered society.
He was so focused on his phone that he didn't notice the rainwater that had accumulated on the steps, making them slippery. As he lifted his foot to step down, he fell down over a dozen stairs.
"Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!"
Yang Minhua saw him and quickly ran down the stairs to help him up. The young man was in so much pain that he screamed and grabbed Yang Minhua's hand. Suddenly, he lifted his dark eyes and asked in a low voice -
"Hey, why were you staring at me just now?"
Yang Minhua was taken aback. He didn't realize he was looking so blatantly at the other person, thinking that the person staring at their phone screen wouldn't notice his gaze.
As he was still in a daze, the young man suddenly shouted again, attracting the attention of several colleagues who had walked out from behind the company and gathered around.
"Oh, Xiao Li, what's wrong?" The colleagues were all older women who had a penchant for younger male colleagues. Seeing him in such a disheveled state and holding onto a man, they started to take notice.
"Oh, did you fall somewhere?" One of them rolled up the young man's pants, revealing a series of frightening bruises, and her face turned pale.
"This gentleman is a good person. He accidentally stepped on my foot and tripped me, but he didn't run away..." The young man gratefully shook Yang Minhua's hand. He then tried to move his body slightly but couldn't seem to budge. "Ah...what's wrong..."
"...Did you fracture a bone from the fall?"
That female colleague looked quite worried at him. She turned her head away to look at Yang Minhua, who also appeared weak. She suppressed her temper and scolded him, "You are so careless. Why don't you watch where you're going when you walk..."
The sudden framing and blaming made Yang Minhua feel a bit at a loss.
He never thought that this person would say such things. He was just about to speak when those women started yelling at him, not even giving him a chance to speak. He was annoyed by their nagging, so he didn't bother to argue.
He lowered his head and saw that the young man had fallen heavily. After thinking for a moment, he turned around, clasped the young man's hands, and carried him on his back. The crowd had not yet reacted when Yang Minhua hurriedly carried the young man to the parking lot.
"...Bear with it, I'll take you to the hospital."
Yang Minhua carefully put him down and carried him to the passenger seat. He quickly started the car and drove to the nearest hospital.
He called his roommate and said that he was delayed and couldn't make it. As he listened to his phone call, he couldn't help but laugh. The young man was completely caught off guard by his reaction.
