I didn't know what was going on. I couldn't see through all the breaking glass. I heard screaming but I didn't know who it came from. I found Noah's hand, sat up, and ran.
I didn't know where I was running. But I knew I couldn't stop. Noah was being dragged behind me.
Why were these people shooting at us? What did we do? I was panicked so I just ran and covered my head. I finally found my car outside and quickly got in.
"Noah! Get it the car! Now!" I screamed.
"What is going on?!" He yelled back.
"I don't know," I said I slammed my door shut and turned the car on. All of the sudden my back window blew out. I just drove as fast as possible and Noah sat breathing hard and checking back to see if we were being followed. From there it didn't look like we were. It took me a while to calm down. Then I looked over at Noah who was staring at me.
"Oh my gosh. Darce. Your bleeding." Then I felt it. The searing pain. The bullet didn't get lodged but it barely touched my skin. It was nothing more than a big scratch but I was bleeding hard. I screamed. "Darce pull over right now I'm driving!" Noah yelled.
"What if they catch up to us?" I screamed.
"Just switch places with me. Call 911 and give them my address. We are going to the hospital." He sounded so sure as he took the wheel.
"No way! We are not going to the hospital. I just need to put pressure on it to stop the bleeding. We need to find Alex. It's not a coincidence that when we found out his clue we got shot at." I yelled at him. He just looked mad. I couldn't stand him. He wasn't listening to me.
"Darcy, you are literally going to die if we don't get you to a doctor." he said.
"No I won't! It's just my shoulder! I'm not going to die! Just go to New York please!" I yelled at him, "I'll call 911 just please!" I cried. He looked disappointed and shook his head.
"Bear.... I just...." he started. But I cut him off.
"No, there is no way that you can say "just". I'm done with this. I will take that wheel. This is my car." I was ticked. He was being arrogant and rude, he didn't understand what I felt.
"Fine." He said as he pulled an old, gym tee shirt from my messy backseat and pressed it against my shoulder hard and without warning. I screamed and covered my mouth with a fist. Tears were streaming down my face and my vision went blurry as I drove. He kept it pressed there so I could have both of my hands to drive and call the police.
I pulled out my phone. I hesitated before I dialed the number. I finally put it in, 9-1-1 and pressed call. I got an immediate answer from a nice sounding man.
"You've reached 9-1-1 what is your emergency?"
"Hi, hello I'm Darcy Emerson and my friend and I are on the road driving away from 17000 S and 3400 E where there was just a shooting." I said very quickly.
"Okay, was anyone injured?"
"Yes I was shot through my shoulder and we are on the way to the hospital right now."
"Thank you for calling. I'll get people over there right now, what is your location so we can make certain of your safety?"
"I'm sorry but I have to hang up," I said quickly as I hung up the phone. What was I doing? I called my dad and tried to sound calm on the phone as I said I was going on a road trip for the weekend. My dad loved Noah and trusted him with my life so we were ok. Noah's parents weren't going to be home for a week so he didn't call them but that worried me. There were bullet holes in their windows and walls. How would he explain to his parents?
