Mai was used to keeping secrets from her mother, but she had never kept any from her sister. Yet, when Hiba came home from school with a get-well card she had made during art class, Mai could not bring herself to tell her sister what had happened.
The guilt ate at her all through the evening. Whenever anyone would asked her what was wrong Mai lied by saying that she was still feeling icky. Well, it was not a complete lie. Her tummy did feel wriggly with excitement and anxiety with the knowledge that she had not only talked to her father but also got a glimpse of him.
Everyone was right about how she looked like him even though he looked sick himself. After Milda had felt the room, Mai walked over to the long mirror in the corner of her room and studied her face. She had his eyes in both color and shape. Beneath the childhood chubbiness, she could tell that her face would be like his. She turned her head this way and that then looked down at her arms and hands at the caramel skin that covered her body.
Mai smiled and put her hands over her heart. She had so many questions and now she could asked them. It was then that she chose not to say a word to Hiba. Not yet.
Mai didn't know where her father was, and she hadn't had a chance to tell her father about Hiba. If Mai told Hiba that she had talk to her father, it would upset her. Hiba wanted to talk to her father as much as Mai, maybe even more since at least Mai's knew she existed. Tonight, when everyone was asleep, Mai would try to contact her father again and tell him about her younger sister. No matter what, Hiba's father had to know that she existed. Maybe together, their fathers would be able to help each other find them and the sisters could forget about the witch's plan.
A small shiver of fear crept down her back as she thought about what Hiba had explained to her. The witch had told Hiba that a gate would appear on Halloween night. Something special was going to happen that would cause a gate to open to any world they wanted and all they had to do was walk through it. The location of this gate would be at a park, but the witch wouldn't say which one till the time was right. Hiba's great plan had the two of them sneaking away from their mom to go to the gate. And then what? Were they going to run away and risk never seeing their mother again?
Hiba admitted that she didn't know, and the witch wouldn't tell her anything else. Hiba had it in her mind that they would find their dads and come back for their mother. It was a bad plan, but Hiba had already made up her mind and Mai couldn't let her sister do this alone. Mai would have told their mother if she didn't swear on her horns not to. So she helped Hiba by convincing their mother to take them trick-or-treating the normal way to give them the chance they needed to slip away. Now she wished she hadn't done it.
But I have my dad now. I can just ask him what I should do. The thought made her feel better since this would be the first time she would be looking to her father for advice. She was sure he would know what to do.

Yami paced the floor in front of the fire place as Wormwood finished casting a spell over the fire so that the next time Mai called, the rest of the room could hear her. Huarwar and Seto were busy setting up items on a table while Yugi sat in one of the sofa chairs in front of the fire. His purple eyes watched Yami pace back and forth. He had given up on telling Yami to sit down and relax, so he used their life link to send him calming emotions. Which sort of worked since the demon hadn't destroyed anything or made the air unbreathable with his anxiety.
The door to the sitting room opened and Yugi turned to see Mai and Joey walking in looking tired but excited. He wasn't sure if having this many people in the room would be a good idea, but it only felt right that the pair should be here. Yami must have felt the same way since he didn't say a word when Yugi told him that Mai insisted on joining them tonight incase her namesake called. Yugi got up from the chair to go over to them. Yami didn't even noticed that anyone had walked into the room.
