"seokmin, could you just stop with the silly faces" jeonghan spoke, nonchalantly throwing a pillow at the younger boy. mischief in his brown eyes, seokmin only chuckled. his fingers traveled to his softly lightened hair before his wandering gaze focused on something in the corner of the room. remembering how childish his friend could be, jeonghan immediately regretted his previous action as a hefty cushion hit him right in the face.
   "ohh okay then..."
the tone resonated as oddly calm, a complete contrast with the threatening stare he was giving. no one dared to talk, mouth sealed as if they unconsciously waited for something to happen. and it did. nothing more than few seconds later, seungkwan's room turned into an apocalyptic scene, much to his dismay.
"wooow guys ! calm tf down" he howled with a voice that could have made the house quake. vernon watched him rushing to catch a vase painted in faint colours, before it could land on the unpolished floor. the brunette clutched his stomach from laughing so frankly. their chaotic behaviour was absolutely hilarious. he would keep a nice memory of this balmy saturday afternoon, of that he was certain.

slowly, things went back to normal. the billowing curtains tamed the sun beams and a gentle breeze crept through the open window. seokmin groggily stood up, his bare feet leading him to seungkwan's adored guitar. well aware of his friend's intense gaze, he couldn't help but grin.
"come on boo, you seriously think i'm gonna break it or something"
his bony hand lingered above the instrument before he delicately took it and got back to his seat. seungkwan rolled his eyes, sighing alongside. he wasn't fond of people touching his things, but since it was seokmin... everyone knew that the slender boy was a genius when it came to music. the sweet sounds of the acoustic guitar filled the room at every motion of his fingers. celestial was the only word that crossed vernon's mind as he lost himself to the melody.
"how i wish i could play the guitar that well..." he said, eyes still shut.
"i can teach you... if you teach me how to skate ! fair enough right"
vernon laughed at the statement. according to his friends, he had some skateboarding skills. their opinion on the subject born after seeing him the week before, training for a local competition. even though vernon didn't win that day, he undeniably left an impression on the guys.
as the laughter died away, something came to his mind, in a quite brutal manner. his eyes grew wide, he couldn't believe he actually forgot.
"oh my— guys i gotta go"
leaving his friends utterly dumbfounded and oblivious to the situation, he hurriedly ran down the stairs and grabbed his skateboard before exiting the house.

vernon stood on his black and neon green skateboard, the small wheels loudly running on the concrete. he hastily wiped beads of sweat from his temples and exhaled. a heatwave shrouded san francisco since thursday, and wasn't planning on leaving. the leafy trees hid the sun that was blazing hot, but the young man could feel his skin burning. even his head was spinning. the streets were almost empty at that time of the day, which allowed him to speed up in the quiet suburb.
after what seemed to be hours, a panting vernon arrived at the newly opened skatepark. he couldn't help but wonder if it was a rather wise choice for a first date, but nothing else came to his foggy mind when she asked him where they should go. that was how the boy spent most of his spare time, so the answer came by itself, naturally. his eyes wandered around the park until they fell upon the person he was supposed to meet. all his doubts vanished as he watched her, trying to do a figure he didn't even know. he was surprised, to say the least, she had never mentioned that she could skate as well. and he had never seen her on the engine before, which was weird considering the fact that she lived the house right beside his for as long as he could remember. perhaps he wasn't as perceptive as he thought he was...
vernon walked towards the girl, a subtle smile on his thin lips. there was something about the sunlight kissing her bare face, the wind lightly blowing her hair that took his breath away. she finally acknowledged his presence and her features softened, a smile reciprocating his.
"hey ! how are you ?! i kinda got worried not seeing you here since i was a bit late, i thought i went to the wrong place !"
"i'm sorry, i was at my friend's house and— i somehow forgot... i feel so bad right now"
he couldn't avoid her magnetic eyes as he spoke, even though it was his intention at first. her gaze held so much sympathy and warmth that it made him even more remorseful. he was the one who stole glances at her whenever he had the chance to, the one who had suggested the date during their last late night talk in his backyard. vernon awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. when his eyes met her face again, it seemed like she was holding her laughs. she regained her composure and brought her hand to his shoulder.
"it's fine, don't worry. plus, you came just few minutes after me ! also, i was thinking... what if we had a milkshake at that café down our street ?! it's not that far and we have our skateboards anyw—"
   "i'd love that !"
