We slowly made our way through the extensive maze of alleyways. Before we rounded each corner he craned his head around to see if anyone was there before continuing. When I asked him about it he just glared and said that a friend of a friend hadn't looked around a corner before turning it and was knocked out and kidnapped.
But the thing was, I had no idea what he was looking out for. I had never heard of anything more than a robbery around here. And if this guy was even slightly worried about what might be around a corner, then I should be terrified.
"So tell me, why were you running through the alley?" He asked in a gruff tone.
"Well, I was almost late for dinner, so I needed to take a shortcut to get home on time." He nodded and turned another corner.
"Oh my god! Since I got hung up by you guys I'm going to be late! My mom is going to kill me!" I exclaimed.
"Not if we kill you first."
Suddenly the motorcycle skidded to a stop and in front of us I saw another group of bikers. They were all wearing matching turquoise jackets and ripped jeans, exposing scuffed up knees and cut thighs.
"Well, if it isn't Oikawa." I heard the man in front of me say.
"Alas, it is me Ennoshita. You know not to come here, so why would you dare show your face?" I heard a small laugh come from him.
I felt the now named Ennoshita tense and say,
"Well, Oikawa. I have precious cargo that I need to deliver. So if you could please let me pass that would be great."
"I assume you're talking about the kid on your bike? Doesn't look very precious to me." He muttered the last part and I could see Ennoshita turn an angry red. But, before he could do anything, the man named Oikawa started to talk again.
"But, if the infamous Ennoshita wants him, he must have some worth. So, I'll make you a trade. That boy for passage through this alley, hm? I'd call that fair." He smiled sinisterly.
"No way in hell." I heard Ennoshita growl.
"Well shoot.Don't say I didn't give you a chance. Iwa~chan!"
"Iwa-chan? Who's that?" I asked Ennoshita in a hushed tone. He didn't have a chance to respond before I felt a bullet whiz past my ear.
"Hang on!" He yelled, putting the motorcycle in reverse. I tightly wrapped my arms around his waist and closed my eyes, putting my cheek against his leather jacket. We sped out of the alley with the other bikers right on our heels. Every couple seconds I heard a gun fire, but the bullet never hit it's mark.
We made our way into open streets. Sunset was long gone and Oikawa and his gang were still tailing us, but Ennoshita was always one step ahead, snaking in and out of alleyways trying to shake them off.
I guess the mix of a black motorcycle and black clothing made it easy for him to blend into the shadows. We turned into a dark alley and stopped. Ennoshita turned the motorcycle's engine off and we sat in silence, listening to the sound of motorcycle engines speeding past our hiding spot.
After another couple minutes Ennoshita said,
"Ok. They're gone."
I released a breath I didn't realize I was holding and slumped against Ennoshita's back.
"Thank you." I said and i felt him nod.
He turned the engine back on and we slowly made our way back onto the main street. We rode in silence for a few minutes before I said,
"So who were those guys?"
"Seijoh. They're trouble makers and want nothing more than to put my friends and I out of commission."
I nodded and looked around. We were still downtown and all the lights from the buildings were lighting up the night. It was then that I remembered that I had missed dinner and curfew.
He must have felt my pulse quicken because he said,
"What's got you all worked up? I shook off Seijoh so we'll be fine."
"No it's not that. I just missed dinner and curfew because of all this. My parents are going to be furious."
I heard a light chuckle escape from his mouth.
"Well then. I should probably get you back to your house."
"Yeah..."
He hit the gas on his bike and we sped off in the direction of the suburbs.
"So where's your house?"
"Oh, it's 18 Cherry Blossom Lane." He nodded and changed directions.
We arrived at my house and I hopped off the bike. My legs were a bit wobbly but I managed to stay upright. I took the helmet off my head and handed it to him.
"Thanks for the ride, and saving me." I laughed lightly.
"Anytime. Hey, what's your name?" He asked.
"Tanaka Ryūnosuke." I held out my hand for him to shake.
"Ennoshita Chikara." He took my hand and completed the gesture.
I stepped away from the bike and walked to my front door. Before I could lay a finger on it my mother slammed the door open and yelled,
"Where have you been!? I was so worried!" She pulled me into a hug and started to pull me inside.
Before she closed the door I was able to sneak one last glance at Ennoshita. He gave a small wave and rode off, disappearing into the night.
