The moonlight shines across the Black Lake and the wind rustles through the trees. A heavy sigh escapes you run my fingers through the dying grass. It's cold outside now that winter is approaching. The leaves on all of the trees are falling off to be walked on by the students on campus, many of them are crunched and smushed from the feet that have trampled over them. Huh, leaves are relatable.

You move to remove your shoes and put your feet in the cold lake. Maybe the cold will bring some kind of feeling back into your life. You take off your shoes and your white socks with green stripes and you quickly slip your feet into the lake. It's cold, colder than you've ever been.

You're about to question why the hell it's so cold when little snowflakes begin to fall from the sky. Great. Just fantastic. Maybe you'll get hypothermia and die so you don't have to deal with this world anymore. You lean yourself back to lie on your back and stare at the stars. You can't place any constellations, but the stars are beautiful, prettier than anything on Earth will ever be.

The grass tickles my neck as you lay in it, so you begin to lift my hand to scratch it, but the sound of a twig snapping in the distance catches your attention first. Your head whips over to the direction it came from, towards the castle. You squint to try and see into the darkness but fail. You decide that it was just my imagination and go back to gazing at the stars and thinking about how this day all went to shit.

"Oh, come on, (y/n), you've got to be fucking kidding me," Draco snarled at me.

"I-I just... sometimes it feels like you don't love me anymore and I saw her hugging you and I just thought maybe..." You trailed off before you said the words.

"That maybe I was cheating on you. That's what you were going to say, right?" Draco scoffed and rolled his eyes. "You know if you weren't so clingy and annoying maybe more people would like you."

His words were harsh and he knew that they were going to hurt, but there were no signs of regret on his face after he said them. Your brain started to go into overdrive and tears filled your eyes. You open and closed your mouth to speak, but nothing comes out. Draco quirked an eyebrow at you as if to ask why you were gaping at him like a fish, but your brain and your mouth finally seemed to catch up to each other and you snapped your mouth shut.

"I-" You sharply inhaled before attempting to speak again. Your eyes teared up just thinking about your next words. "Don't ever talk to me again, we're done, Malfoy."

You walked past Draco and out of the Slytherin common room entrance. Your footsteps were heavy as you ran through the hallway and down to the entrance of the castle to get outside. There wasn't a single person in the hallway to stop you as you pushed the doors open and ran to the Black Lake. Your only goal was to get as far away from Draco as possible, as fast as possible. When you got to the Black Lake you sat down and started sobbing.

And now, here you are, emotionless. If Draco wasn't such a prick, none of this would've happened. He knew how insecure you are about being annoying and people not liking you, and he hit you where it hurt with no regret. You squeeze your eyes shut and try your best to forget the moment, to think of something happy, but nothing comes to mind. The only thing you can replay in your head are Draco's words. "You know if you weren't so clingy and annoying maybe more people would like you."

You don't even realize that you've been pulling the grass from the ground until a cold hand lays on top of yours. Your eyes snap open and in half a second you are up, feet pulled out of the lake, and trying to run away. You don't even get one step in before two arms encircle you and you're pulled into the person's chest.

Time for the second-best option, begging.

"Please, please, don't hurt me. I'm sorry for running, please, I won't run agai-"

"Shhh, love, it's just me, I'm not going to hurt you." It's Draco. Draco is safe... and really warm. You go slack in his arms and he slowly moves to sit down with you in his arms.

Draco pulls you up into his lap and close to his chest. He slips his coat off of his shoulders and over your curled up form.

"I've been looking everywhere for you. Why are you out here it's freezing?" His words are a little fuzzy to you. The warmth of his body compared to yours, making you tired.

"Wanted to get away," you mumble softly into his chest.

You can almost feel Draco beginning to frown. "I'm sorry that I said that, I didn't mean it, I didn't mean any of it. I was just upset and said what I thought would hurt most without thinking."

Tears resurface to your eyes and before you know it they are flowing down your face. "It hurt," you sob. "It hurt so fucking bad, and you didn't even look like you regretted it."

"I did, (y/n), I regretted it so much. I love you. I love you and only you and once I realized what I said I felt like my world was falling apart. You're my world, (y/n), you're my everything," Draco says.

Another little sob escapes you and you snuggle closer into Draco.

"Let's talk about this in the morning, darling. You're freezing and I'm sure you're tired." Draco slides an arm under your leg and picks you up bridal style. He starts to carry you back to the castle, but you stop him.

"My shoes..." you point to your shoes abandoned by the Black Lake.

"You have an extra pair, and I can get you more, don't worry about them." He continues the walk to the castle.

By the time you've made it to Draco's room, you're half asleep in his arms. When you get into the dorm Draco sets you down on his bed and starts to go through his things, looking for something.

"Aha!" He exclaims quietly. When he walks back over to the bed he's holding a pair of fuzzy socks and one of his jumpers.

He helps you change and then lays down next to you and pulls your head to his chest. You can hear his steady heartbeat as he hums a song and runs his fingers through your hair. You won't admit it to him now, but you could never stop loving him.

His chest rumbles as he speaks to you. "Goodnight, darling, I love you."

Or maybe you will admit it...

"G'night Draco, I love you too." The reply is slurred as you snuggled further into him. Tonight was the first time he admitted he loved you.
