Chapter Ten
Rob
After our little heart to heart, Olympia and I took my mum's car to Asda, there's no way we could put any shopping on my bike after all. Olympia had plugged my phone into the car's audio jack and was currently looking through youtube for some music.
"This is amazing, I just found a playlist called 'Songs You're Embarrassed to Know by Heart', and we have to listen to it."
I rolled my eyes, Olympia got it ready and loading as I turned onto the main road, the supermarket wasn't far away but you have to go down a busy road to get there by car. A late Saturday morning was apparently a prime time because traffic was slow.
"I hopped off the plane at L.A.X. with a dream and my cardigan
Welcome to the land of fame, excess, whoa! Am I gonna fit in?
Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time
Look to my right, and I see the Hollywood sign"
Olympia sang, somewhere she had found an empty water bottle that now served as her microphone as she sang Miley Cyrus. She flicked her hair around and played the role of a diva as well as she could while confined by a seat belt.
"This is all so crazy, everybody seems so famous
My tummy's turnin' and I'm feelin' kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous
That's when the taxi man turned on the radio
And the Jay-Z song was on"
Olympia looked at me as a cue to join in once we had come to a complete standstill, I shook my head, Miley had never been my thing.
"And the Jay-Z song was on..." she tried again, my resolve was weakening by the second.
"And the Jay-Z song was on!" I joined in and she smiled before we launched into the chorus.
"So I put my hands up, they're playin' my song
The butterflies fly away
I'm noddin' my head like Yeah!
Movin' my hips like Yeah!
Got my hands up, they're playin' my song
And now I'm gonna be okay
Yeah! It's a party in the USA!
Yeah! It's a party in the USA!"
By now we had given up all pretence of singing and were full on shouting, sharing out water bottle mic, and probably looking like lunatics. The traffic hadn't moved yet, so we might as well have some fun.
"Everybody's lookin' at me now
Like who's that chick that's rockin' kicks
She's gotta be from out of town
So hard with my girls not around me
It's definitely not a Nashville party
'Cause all I see are stilettos
I guess I never got the memo
My tummy's turnin' and I'm feelin' kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous
That's when the DJ dropped my favourite tune
