Into the streets

Recap:
We all looked back at the house one last time willing our older brothers to come out of the house to join us but nothing happens the door stays closed. We waited for a minute longer then all as one we take a step into the streets whispering one word before disappearing into the night.

"Goodbye"

"My feet hurt"

My siblings complained as we sat on a dry patch of grass under some oak trees in the public park. We have been out here for at least a week and not one time has our older brothers some to look for us or put up fliers or anything. We were doing fine. Everest, Milo, Bryan, Evelyn and Maximilian were all playing tag in the rain. Hunter was passed out with drool coming out of the side of his mouth. Eli was snuggling up to me while I sketched and Samuel was...wait a minute where in saints heck is Samuel. I was about to ask when I heard him screaming my name.

"Ashley, Ashley help me"

I stood up and saw Samuel sprinting towards me with a loaf of bread in his hands and a look of horror on his face. I looked behind him and saw like five men in black chasing him. When he got to me I pushed him behind me and called my siblings to stand with Samuel. I glanced at Hunter who is still in his deep sleep. I roll my eyes, how can he seriously still be sleeping after Sammy screaming at the top of his lungs for help. I kicked him in the stomach and smiled when he groaned in pain.

"Seriously Ashley can't you wake me up in a nicer way, I am your twin after all"

Hunter said as he sat up and rubbed his sore stomach at the same time as rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Ok am going to be a nice twin and not say anything about the drool coating his cheek.

"First of all why would I do that and second of all we have a situation to handle so..."

I say. Relising that we are not alone he jumps up and pushd me behind him. I rolled my eyes and stepped out from behind him shooting him a glare that says 'I got this'.

"Hello gentlemen I am so sorry about my brother, I don't know what got into him, but you can have your bread back and we will be on our way"

I said as I aimed to walk past them.

"Now hold on pretty lady"

One of the men said as they grabbed my wrist. I struggled to get out of their hold.

"Let go of me"

I growl threw my clenched teeth. All he did was tighten his hold. My siblings started to cry. All of a sudden a man walks up and says

"Is everything alright"

"Yes"

The man holding me said at the same time I said

"No"

The other man raised his eyebrows at us and said

"Well which one is it"

"Yes"

"No"

We both say at the same time. He tightened his hold even more and I whimpered in pain. The other man told the man beside me to step away from me and of course he refused so the other man pulled out a gun and shot him my siblings and I screamed then screamed again longer and louder when he shot the other four men their. We started to back up without him noticing but we failed when he turned to look at us but we were not looking at him but at the gun that was hanging loosely in his hand like he is used to it being their. He realize what we were starting at and so he tucked it away in his leather jacket which by the way is awesome I have always wanted a leather jacket. He cleared his throat and said

"I am so sorry kids that you had to see that"

"Who you callin kid"

Hunter said as he stood straight and puffed out his chest. I rolled my eyes at Hunter and his stupid ego.

"What my brother said is true we are not kids"

What he is my twin so if he has a big ego I definitely have a bigger ego. I continued to talk

"Well thank you for your...help but we better get going"

I said.

"Hold up"

The man said as he held his hand up in front of him asking for us to stop walking well at least he didn't try to grab me like the last guy did.

"Why are you kids out here in the dark by yourselves and where are your parents"

All my siblings and I looked at eachother communicating with our eyes.

"They-"

I stated to say but was cut off when he said

"And don't bother lying"

I sighed giving my siblings a look that said 'I'm gonna tell him'.

"Our mother died and our father is abusive so some of my siblings and I ran away"

" Thought as much"

He said as he nodded his head.

"What do you mean?"

I asked with a tilt of my head.je shrugged and said

"Why else would you lot be out here in the middle of the night and a little kid stealing a loaf of bread"

I raised an eyebrow at Sammy and he just rubbed his neck and chuckles. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the stranger.

"So I am John Cornell nice to meet you all"

He said as he clapped his hands together once and made a bow when he stated his name. I smiled and thought 'I like this guy'. He looked at me and I said

"Oh my name is Ashley and these are my twin and younger siblings"

As we all gave a wave at the same time with a grin.

"Ok first of all never do that again it so super creepy"

John said as he takes shuttered making Everest and Evelyn giggle. He smiled at them. He turned back to me with a frown.

"You guys don't have anywhere else to go do you"

We all shook our heads no. He thought for a minute before stating.

"How would you lot feel about comin to live with me?"

I looked at my siblings and they smiled at me encouraging, begging me to say yes, so I turned back to John and said with a smile.

"I think we would like that very much"
