It was about midnight when Nichole and my mother came home. Kali and I were still sitting on the couch watching the chick flick "The Vow". She was still bruised from being pinned to the wall. I could see her wrists with the imprint of a hand still on it from being gripped so hard. My leg still was throbbing from the scratched mark in my leg. I don't know how I'm going to tell my mom and Nichole what happened. While all these thoughts buzzed in my head, I didn't notice that Kali was trying to get my attention (Me being already oblivious to what happened before). "Alex" she said her voice hushed as always. "Yeah babe?" I say firm and alert. "What the hell was that back there?" I thought I was going to lose you forever!" she starts to say with tears filling her eyes. I hold her tighter and say, "I will never leave you. I'll protect you from everything that tries to hurt you." I say that with a reassuring tone. Before I could say anything else, she leans in and puts her lips to mine. I did not want them to leave hers. It was the perfect moment. We hear a car door and Nichole's voice even before she was in the house.

" I'M HOME!! Did you miss me little bro-" she starts to say but then her eyes shift to Kali. "Oh. Hello...I didn't know that you were still here..." She says akwardly and then runs up the steps knowing she ruined the moment. "Oh god. I'm sorry. My 17 year old sister is weird. But I love her." I say annoyned. "It's fine." she giggles. She looks at her phone. "Oh crap! I have to be home by 12:30! Can your mom drive us home?" she asks worried. "Yeah. Hold on." I get up and walk out to my mom's volvo. "Hey mom! Can you take Kali home?" "Sure honey." she says, her voice as sweet as honey. As we are in the car my mom notices my scatches. "Alex. What happened to your leg?" she says concerned. "Oh that. I fell down the stairs as I was going down to get the movie. Then I cut my leg on the corner on the living room stairs." I say which seems to convince her. "Oh you idiot." she says jokingly. Then we get to her house. I help her out of the car and walk her to her door. "I'm really happy we got to hang out. I loved tonight. Except for what happened." I say hesitant. "It'll all be okay. Don't worry." she said reassuringly. Then she leans in and our lips are touching once again. "I love you." I say. "I love you too."

That night all I could think about is Kali. Our kiss. The demons. Then I fall into a deep sleep. I wake up to the ringing of my alarm clock. 6:20am. Great. I get a shower and it's time to go. I grab my phone off it's charger and go to the bus. I was very quiet the whole bus ride until I got to school. My friend Maggie comes up to me. "ALEX!" she says as she breaks out her New Jersey accent. I don't reply. "ALEX! EHH WHAT'S WRONG?!" she asks concerned. I know she wouldn't give up so I turn around and say, "It's nothing. Just things over the weekend that happen that pissed me off and scared the hell out of me" I say aggravated. "Okay then" she says backing off. Then Kali comes up behind me and gives me a long kiss. "Are you okay?" she asks. "Yeah I'm fine. I just wanted Saturday night to be perfect" I say disappointed. "It was perfect. You were there and that's all that matters." she say her voice as sweet as honey. "Aww" I say then I lean in and kiss her one more time. Then after school ends I rush onto the bus. I'm silent again as I put my headphones on. I just can't shake the feeling that Kali was in danger. Before I turned my phone onto 'ringer' I got a bunch of texts from Kali. She seemed very worried so I called her. "Hey babe." I say concerned. "Hey. Can you hangout tonight?" she asks very desperately. "Of course you can. 7:00 alright with you?" I say in the voice she seems to find comforting.  "I will be there. See you later, love you." "I love you too."

"So when's your girly friend coming over?" Nichole asks in her annoying child voice. "Shut up, and she's coming at seven. Happy?" "Jeez, I just wanted to know. You can be such a di-" she gets cut off as mom comes in the room. "So Alex, when's Kali coming?" she starts to ask as the doorbell rings. "Oh that's her." I say as I go to answer the door. "Hell-" I start to say as I'm opening the door but she attacks me before I get a chance to. "Oh my I missed you!" she says seeming like she had just seen a person killed. My blood runs cold. I feel a chill run down my back. "Are you okay babe?" "Yeah I just want to be here with you. I feel safe." "I've been having these nightmares" I blurt out without even thinking about it. "Really? About what?" "Um, can we talk about this in my bedroom?" I ask with a firm tone. "Okay...?" she says baffled and confused. As we go into my bedroom, I close the door and turn to her. I ask her to sit down and I finally say, "Kali, I think it's back".

"What did you just say?" she asks clearly in shock. "I think it's back okay! I've been having these nightmares and I feel like it's watching us!" I blurt out becoming hysterical. "Calm down. It's okay we can get through this!" she starts to scream, getting louder and louder. Suddenly, her voice is cut off. The air gets still. Too still. "MOM??" I yell down stairs and wait to hear an answer. All I hear is silence. "Is your mom even here?" "Yeah she should be. She would've told me if she would go anywhere" I say getting more and more worried. I decide to go downstairs to check it out. As I get to the bottom of the steps, I can't help sensing something is very wrong. I hear something in the kitchen and I twist my head so fast to a ninety degree angle, I felt like I snapped my neck. I'm just about to say something, but a spot caught my eye. I stood there in shock. The air got so still. So still that it sent a chill up my spine. I quivered at the thought of it. I was standing, staring right at the blood trail going from my foot to the kitchen. My whole body froze and I felt like I couldn't breathe. "What the he-" I start to say, but out of the corner of my eye I see a shadow move faster than the speed of light. I about almost pissed my pants when Kali comes up behind me. "Alex...what the hell is that?" she demands. "I don't know...I think it's a trail of blood. What do you think it is?" I sarcastically retort. "I'm going to go check it out. YOU stay here." "Fine. Just be careful." "Yeah. Thanks." I roll my eyes. I get to the kitchen and I almost slip and fall. I grip the rail and my hand instantly becomes very moist. I release my grip and look at my hand. It is dark red and I feel sick to my stomach. "Alex...?" "Yeah..." "Why is there blood on your hands?" she says sounding hysterical. "I don't know. I almost slipped on the floor and then I caught the railing and then this." I reach out my hand and she got as pale as newly blanked snow during winter. Before she could say anything else I look up and see my mother, laying face down, at the edge of the kitchen entering the living room. I stand in shock and disbelief. I feel my eyes start to fill up with tears. At the same time I get angry and start to lose my mind. So many thoughts in my head. Why me? What did I do to deserve this? I can't believe this. "ALEX!" Kali screams. I get out of my daze and realize Kali isn't next to me...
