It was a sunny afternoon on the 28th of July 1994. A young girl was sitting under a large oak tree in a park near the orphanage where she lives. It was her absolute favourite place in the whole world, apart from the roof perhaps. It was where she came to escape. To read her books that she loved, in peace. She was currently reading 'Hogwarts : a History' for the 5th time. It was a funny book about 'magic', she found in a car wreck a year ago. It was her favourite book in the whole world. Sometimes she wished that she could just escape into the book and never return to her awful life. You see, she wasn't the type of girl to sit still and do as she was told. She had her own way of doing things and wasn't one for following rules. She saw it as a waste of time. Unfortunately the orphanage wasn't lenient with their punishments. She had a hard life growing up and that was exactly why she stood up for what she believed in and challenged the people who raised her, because she knew there was something better waiting for her somewhere out there.

She was rudely snapped out of her thoughts by a policeman hovering over her. I really ought to climb up the tree, instead of sitting under it. I'm making it easier for them to catch me...

"Miss I believe you should be inside the orphanage. Not out here in the park." The policeman said with one eyebrow arched.

"Oh I know. I just prefer it here, thanks." She replied, her voice dripping with fake sweetness.

And there it was, the usual routine of her escaping only to be dragged back to the orphanage by a police officer. She hated every part of it. The orphanage too. It was a horrid place to live. Foul smelling and cruel, that's what it was. More like a jail than a home.

The policeman dragged her all the way back to the orphanage and over the door's threshold. "I can walk on my own from here. I don't need your horrible face staring at me all the way to my room." She said with all the hate in the world. She slammed the door shut only to turn around and find Madam Hare, the orphanage warden, looking at her with a look of pure disgust.

"Melody! How many times do you need to get punished to understand that you aren't allowed out of this building!?" Madam Hare bellowed.

"As many times as it takes to get it through your thick skull that I am never going to listen to you." Melody replied casually while inspecting her nails.

"Thats it!" Madam Hare grabbed Melody by the ear and hauled her up to the top floor bathroom. She shoved Melody inside and the distinct sound of a door locking could be heard throughout the silent hall.

"You can come out of there when your little attitude is gone. No food until it is gone either!" Madam Hare shouted through the locked door.

Melody stood up when she was sure Madam Hare was gone. She walked over to the sink mirror to inspect the damage. Not too bad today, only a small bruise on my cheek from hitting the floor when that wrech threw me in here.
