Oliver was a curious cat. Many cats are, but not as curious as Oliver. This morning, Oliver was feeling extra curious. He sat looking out the glass back door when his owner Alice came rushing down the stairs with a large backpack on her back. She was dressed very neatly, unlike everyother day. This was because today was the first day of school, and Alice was going into grade 7. This was serious business, ever since a week before school, Alice had lost her imagination. She didn't go on adventures with Oliver anymore. Oliver looked at her and meowed.
"Oh, there you are Oliver!" Alice said, "Whould you like some food?" She said walking to his food dish, Oliver looked back outside. "Oh, you want to go outside, don't you?" Alice opened the door and Oliver jumped outside. It was a lovely day and Oliver loved it. He looked up at the sky, soaking in the sun. He heard Alice close the door and bound off somewhere in the house. Oliver padded over to his favorite tree in the corner of the yard. Normally the birds would be sitting in the tree singing, but today, they weren't there.
Oliver climbed up the tree and go to his perch, where he looked out over the world past the fence. "Where shall I go today?" Whispered Oliver. He saw the hedge that lay a few feet past the fence, and past that the meadow where cows sometimes grazed and beyond that the forest. Oliver had always wanted to ecplore the forest, but he never had gotten far enough. Today was his chance to try. He crept to the edge of the branch and jumped. In one bound he was over the fench and landed gently on his feet. He started to walk to the hedge when he was stopped by a voice.
"Where are you going today, Oliver?" A female cat meowed.
"None of your business Nala!" Oliver meowed before he continued into the hedge. He was almost about to start his way into the hedge when Nala spoke again.
"Your going to the forest, aren't you?" Nala said in awe, "Can I come?" Nala asked running to join him.
"No, it's to dangerouse for a kittin like you." Oliver replied, clearly annoyed.
"I'm the same age as you!" Nala meowed loudly, "PLEASE!!!!!"
"No, and that's my final answer!" Oliver bounded into the hedge, crawling through the tangled branches. After about three minuetes of ducking, crawling, and jumping, Oliver made it to the other side of the hedge. He breathed in the fresh air of the meadow and continued on his way. The cows were out today and were scattered across the meadow like black and white blobs, grazing on the greenest grass the word has ever seen. Oliver padded through the long grass and made his way to the edge of the meadow where only one cow was grazing. When Oliver reached her, he hopped onto the fench surounding the meadow and began to walk past her.
"Well is this the cat all the cows are talking about?" The cow mooed looking up, "You must be Oliver!" Oliver nodded. "I heard about you, you the cat who adventures, right? Where you goin today?"
Oliver flicked his tail to the forest, "In there," Oliver meowed.
"Oh! Be careful, I heard that forest has the scariest creature you could ever meet livin in it!"
"I'll be ok," Oliver said as he continued on his way. 'The scariet creature you could ever see?' Oliver thought, 'What could it be?' Oliver continued to think about this until he reached the edge of the wood. He looked into the dark forest, the light blocked by the thick layer of trees. Oliver swallowed and continued into the forest, walking as slow as possible and keeping an eye out for anything that moved. He walked on and on until he couldn't hear the cows mooing anymore, or see the way he had come in.
Suddenly as if out of nowhere, a branch cracked. Oliver jumped, the hair on his spine standing on edge. He looked at where the sound had come from, above. Looking up Oliver saw a bird sitting on a branch looking down at Oliver.
"Why are yoouuuu here?" The bird sang, "You want to get killed?"
"No, I... I just thought... maybe I could... see what was...in the...in this forest," Oliver said shyly.
"Why, thought you were brave did you?" The bird hopped onto another branch, lower on the tree, closer to Oliver. He stepped back towards a different tree. "Be careful you little kitty, HE loves to eat lost kittens!" The bird said hopping even closer to Oliver. He stepped back again, slowly. He looked back to see how much space he had between him and the tree. About 3 feet, but it was cut shorter because of a rabbit hole hidden in the brambles.
"What is it?" Oliver asked, "HIM?"
"You want to know about HIM?" The bird sand as it hopped right infornt of Oliver, "HE has sharp claws, the pointiest teeth any creature could ever have. HE is as tall as the tallest tree in the Amazon, HE eats Kittins for a snack and-" A loud crack filled the air. Oliver heard birds take flight into the air, but the one infront of Oliver stayed, "HE'S coming!" the bird sang before flying into the sky to join all the other birds. Oliver looked around and stepped backward, terrified. He made it to the bramble surrounding the tree and hide in it, avoiding the rabbit hole.
A large shadow came into view, sharp dagger like teeth hung out of the creatures mouth, its front paws were forward and the sharp claws hang out of them about 1 foot long. The shadow got closer to Oliver. Oliver moved back, slowly carefully, so he wouldn't make a noise. He held his breath and continued to walk back. Suddenly Oliver lost his footing, he fell. He fell and kept falling. He had slipped into the rabbit hole.
