Ben's POV

After we had driven around the city, Cyrus had parked us at a place to recharge and plan on 37th and 5th Avenue. I was rather annoyed because it was literally only streets down from the library. And, even though I had memorized locations of hotels on google maps he still didn't believe me. Erica had also realized we were making wrong turns and Cyrus was surprisingly very dismissive of her. I guessed he was still annoyed at the little stunt she pulled getting the clothes, but it was still odd. I noticed her giving him a side glare and sunk back into the couch feeling very weird vibes hitting me. I forgot to mention that we were now sitting in the room, sprawled across the bed and couch. Mike was dozing off, Alexander was texting someone(does he have a special lady-friend or is it Catherine? *visible cringe*), engrossed in his phone, and Zoe was swooning,(too much, sorry) staring at sleeping Mike. I hoisted myself off the couch with great difficulty, courtesy my laziness and Mike's corpse-like sleeping body. The expression "so and so sleeps like the dead" was quite fitting. I announced to apparently no one that I was going to take a walk. I wanted to experience the Big Apple and get some fresh(not really) air. I took my sweatshirt and pulled it over my other shirt hoping that it would provide some warmth (because I was dumb and didn't have a coat) and I pulled on my nikes([nukes pew pew pew] not sponsored). I took my phone, some money, a set of room keys, and walked out into the cool New York air. It reeked of food carts, sewage, cigarette smoke and small notes of something salty(possibly people's attitudes). I pulled up my hood and kept a hand on my trusty taser ( I was  getting better at using a gun but still didn't feel quite comfortable carrying one around) that I had put in my pocket. Ever since that SASCA it has been one of my most reliable weapons. I kept alert even as I drifted into my thoughts. I found a small stairway on the side of the hotel's entrance and climbed up the stairs, eventually reaching the roof. I stood near the small railing looking at the lively city in front and below, before feeling a presence beside me. Long before I truly recognized who it was the scent of lilacs gave it away. The scent was unmistakable despite the thousand other smells mixed in the air.(i'm sorry if the way I wrote the smell thing sounds creepy)

"Hey Erica" I murmured, trying to stay immersed into the view in front of me. She walked up next to me, without meeting my gaze. Instead she reached into the bag next to her, that I didn't realize she had been carrying. I turned to face her and she gave me an odd look before pulling out a fairly large package wrapped in animal-themed wrapping paper.

"My mom contacted me again. Don't say anything but I talk to her most days since I haven't seen her since the last mission. She also sent over some stuff. I don't know what it is but here."

I didn't know how to react so I just nodded my head and thanked the sirens that blared below. I took the package from her and opened to see a nice jacket, a few gadgets, and some muffins. I felt my lips quirk remembering how we had all stuffed our faces over these muffins. Their scent was enticingly mouth-watering even through the plastic. I was still confused as to why she was giving this to me, and I assume she sensed my confusion because she started talking.

"It wouldn't have mattered when I gave this to you, they are for the mission, but you can think of it as a late birthday present." After placing the gift back in the bag I gave her a small smile and in response she nudged my shoulder and smiled (yes smiled) back. For a couple seconds we stood in a comforting but awkward silence before I decided to break it, as it was still a mission.
