A man sits in the dark
With a drink and a smoke
Trying to fight back the tears
But on them he chokes
It's the fifth year anniversary of the mistake
That caused his wife, her own life to take
For that, himself, he won't ever forgive
And to change that there's nothing he wouldn't give
The Liquor starts affecting his perception of time
He's taken to the past and again he hears those dreadful chimes
He stands up and with the first step that he gave
The house disappeared and he stood on a glade over his wife's grave
He stands there in silence looking down at the stone
Wondering if she'd turned into rotten flesh and a pile of bones
Then there is movement that could be felt from under the heath
And a screeching sound of scratching nails is heard from beneath
He hears her voice, "How could you do this to me?
You're coming to hell; I'm bringing you with me!"
She comes out of her burrow, and the floor begins to break
If it's what she wants, then his soul is hers to take
Suddenly, the scene explodes and turns into the scene of the crime
He can see himself lying in bed with a girl as their fingers entwine
The strap of her bra from her shoulders begins to slip
As his past self kisses up and down her neck and starts biting her lip
The tragedy starts here; he turns his head the other way
His wife has come home early, she stands in the doorway
He knows what is coming, so tries to run after her
His body is immobilized, and the scene starts to blur
The scene becomes clear yet something has changed
His wife is crying, cursing, enraged
She furiously picks a knife from out of the drawer
With her face full of tears falls to her knees on the floor
"I'll kill them" she says, " I'll kill them both"
The man sees her beautiful face, for the first time, full of loathe
"but maybe.... " she thinks, "maybe it wasn't his fault"
"I just wasn't good enough" with depression she thought
The man again burst into tears
He couldn't bear her words, thoughts, and tried to cover his ears
He sees her pick up the knife, slowly press it to her wrist
The man's face portrays fear, and he starts clenching his fist
He watches frozen, she slowly begins cutting her vein
Sees how her eyes widen, with the first burst of pain
But that doesn't stop her and continues till both wrists are cut
She's fascinated by the blood and proceeds to violently stab her gut
Between his sobs the man whispers "please stop..."
But his wife picks up the rope lying on the counter-top
"No! ..Not that!" the man screams to his spouse
He remembers too vividly the image of her hanging in front of the house
She'd used the rope and the stool that she'd pushed from her feet
hanging next to those chimes
till this day, in his head, that sound continuously repeats
He closes his eyes, opens them, finds himself back at home
Looks around for his wife, but finds himself all alone
The sun shines in the windows, here comes the dawn
It doesn't matter though, for the nightmare goes on
