Everything Is Gray

After a lot of back and forth Todoroki finally let me fix his nose. Now we're in a pharmacy getting some stuff and about to check out.

"No you don't have to pay." I tell him pulling out my wallet.

"No I got it. You already have to fix my nose don't worry about it."

I give in and let him pay. We leave the store and sit on a bench outside of the store while I pull all of the stuff out of the bag and set up.

"Eat this."

"Okay?" he says confused, taking the bag of chips form me.

"This too," I demand and hand him a pain killer.

I set a timer on my phone for fifteen minutes so the pill has enough time to kick in before I start.

"What are we gonna do for fifteen minutes?"

I shrug and lean back against the bench looking into the sky. The sun is setting and it's almost nighttime. The moon is already peaking its head through the thick oranges and reds of the sunset.

"Look, I'm sorry I ruined everything. It's kinda what I do," I laugh scratching my head, "and I'm sorry."

"No you didn't,"

"But-"

"Do you like me? As a friend?" he clarifies.

"Yes," I reply a little nervously.

"Good, because I do too. And I don't blame you for what happened and you don't blame me, there's no reason to be weird."

"But my boyfriend-,"

"He'll understand; I promise,"

I don't believe him, I know Kacchan will lose it, but when I look in his eyes I feel safe again and I don't care for now.

"Okay."

"So," Todoroki changes the subject with a smile slightly bigger than usual, "what's your quirk?"

"Being average." I awkwardly reply and scratch my head.

"What?"

"I don't have one," I smile incredibly uncomfortable.

"Makes sense. Someone that looks like you doesn't need anything else to stand out."

I just look down at my lap and smile, not lifting my head until I'm sure my cheeks aren't so warm. Once they're not, I look back up and continue talking to him until my alarm goes off.

"This might hurt," I warn.

"I'm ready," he replies.

"Wait before I start, how many countries are there in Europe?"

"Um I don't- ah fuck!" he screams after I punch him to reposition his nose.

"Sorry."

"Thanks," he says squeezing his eyes shut.

I hand him an ice pack and as soon as I do I laugh at my stupidity.

"Oh my god I'm so retarded."

"No you're not," he comments while he brings his right hand up to his nose and slightly freezes it.

"It's so weird how the sun of Endeavor freezes stuff. That's kinda ironic."

"Yup."

He gets uncomfortable again.

"I'm sorry, is there something with you're Dad- is he okay?"

He looks at me really surprised.

"What?"

"You're just," he pauses and looks like he tries to find the words, "nobody ever asks me stuff like that."

"I'm really annoying, sorry," I laugh, scratching my head.

"No, I like it,"

He looks at me again, the same way he did before he kissed me.

"Uh well, I gotta get back to work, I'll see you later."

I get up quickly and try to walk back to the shop so I can at least help clean up. He stops me by grabbing my arm. I hiss in pain.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah i'm fine. Goodnight."

I rush off before he can stop me again and look down at my arm which was now bleeding again and most of the makeup I put on it in the morning had come off.

"Damn it."

Todoroki Pov

He runs away and I sigh putting my hand over my face. But before I can I see something on my hand- blood. It's not mine and it doesn't take long to figure out it's Midoriya's from when I grabbed him. There's also something a little sticky on it probably makeup and I know all too well what this means. I get a taxi so I can ride downtown and to the hospital. The ladies at the desk already know me and smile while I walk past them and into the elevators. I get up to the right floor and again am easily let past the desk. I walk down the hallway and to the last room on the right.

"Sorry I'm late Nat."

"What the hell happened to you?"

"Oh, nothing really. What happened to you?" I ask, noticing how far gone he appears.

"Drugs."

"Oh my god," I sigh, shaking my head, "what did they put you on."

He shrugs and lays back down on his bed with a huff.

"I hate it here."

"I know."

"Everything is gray."

"I know."

"I want to leave."

"I know."

"No you don't!" my brother snaps, "You get to be out there and do whatever you want. I can't even go to the bathroom without someone watching me. I'm going to die in here and nobody will even notice!"

He had turned around letting his legs hang off the side of his bed until he started crying and pulled his knees up to his chin.

"Don't say that. I'm here everyday. We'll get you out and then you can stay with me. It'll be okay."

"You don't know that."

At this point he calmed himself and was laying on his side again. This time however he was facing me and I could see tears slowly running down his face one by one.

"All I can think about is her. What if I never get better?"

"Do you want to?" I ask him walking over to sit on the edge of his bed.

"Yes."

"Then you will."

I pull him up into a hug and don't let go. At first I'm holding him but the longer we embrace the more I let my guard down and eventually I start crying too and he has to hold me. We stay like that for a while but eventually he loosens his grip to look at me.

"I love you Nat."

"Save that love for your boyfriend," he laughs with a few tears still on his face.

"How did you know?"

"You just told me."

I laugh with him, "I hate you."

"Love you too," he smiles.

A nurse comes and says I have to leave.

"Sorry I was so late I'll be here sooner tomorrow."

"Don't let love wait on my account."

I hug him quickly one more time then leave. I walk home and as soon as I get inside I change and get in bed without even showering exhausted from all the walking. Before I do that though I order for my car to be picked up from the towing company so it can be fixed and a rental to be sent to my house. Once all of it is done I turn my head to face the window and fall asleep quickly.
