"Oh my, god! You got me Bullet for My Valentine tickets for tonight's concert!" My best friend, Alex, screeched in disbelief, jumping up and down in place, clutching the two tickets to her chest.
I would be jumping in place with her but a bittersweet film covered my impulse to do so. You see, my ex-boyfriend is the singer of Bullet for My Valentine. Matt and I dated about a year before he got famous. Our relationship wasn't exactly picture perfect though. We had good days and bad days. Our good days consisted of kissing in the rain or cuddling at night on a blanket under the stars. Those good days made me wish we could stay like that forever because I always knew there was a bad day about to appear around the corner. The bad days consisted of constant yelling rattling the ground and slaps across the face. Our relationship was great but abusive. Now I was just left with bittersweet memories.
"You are coming with me right?" Alex's voice cut through my rant.
My heart skipped a beat. I didn't want to be in the same place as Matt. The memories already follow me like a shadow. Seeing him would just make them weigh down on my shoulders more but it was Alex's birthday and I'm the kind of person who would do anything to make another person smile. Curse my kindhearted nature.
I simply nodded my head which triggered my best friend's smile to grow wider. I swear her face was going to break. I forced a smile as she pulled me into a bone crushing hug. I felt myself grow confused. She knew about my ex, how could she not question if this was okay with me? I guess she was just too happy that the wheels up in her mind were shut down for right now. Also, she probably figured considering I bought two tickets that I was over the whole thing but truth was I wasn't. And I would never be.
My thoughts seemed to travel to Alex because her smile dropped several degrees. I raised my eyebrow, hoping my face didn't give anything away. People always say I'm an open book. My expressions constantly give me away.
"I should have asked, are you sure you're okay with being in a same place as you know who?" She asked, a look of concern crossing over her face.
I nodded, even though I wasn't but as I said my kindhearted nature controlled my actions 24/7. She didn't seem to believe it because she narrowed her eyes.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I mean just because I go to the concert doesn't mean I'll run into him face to face and have to talk to him."
She nodded taking it into consideration. My extended response was more to reassure myself than Alex though.
Maybe my statement was true though. The weight on my shoulders got lighter by a couple pounds and I was able to smile real for my best friend. Maybe it will be a fun night. Too bad I was later about to find out I was totally wrong.
~Later On~
We took about one hour tops to get ready. Alex settled for a Bullet for My Valentine shirt with black shorts. She decided to just slap on black eyeliner and leave her jet black hair natural: Straight and perfect.
As for me, I settled for a black corset with a black top under it with long black pants, which hugged my legs tightly. I curled my light brown hair in loose curls where they reached my lower back. I put mascara and black eyeliner on to make my hazel eyes my most noticeable facial feature. Matt always used to say my eyes could make anyone fall in love.
I made my way back downstairs where Alex was waiting for me.
"You excited?" I asked Alex.
She smiled wildly, nodding her head and we slipped out the door and into the car.
