The grating alarm that blared under Logan's pillow coming from his phone made him to shoot up from his deep slumber he was in. He sighed unpleasantly, immediately took his phone out of the pillow and turned off the alarm before it could disturb his mother. The time was 6:30 AM, but Logan secretly wanted to set it to snooze so he could sleep longer. He knew he couldn't, because his school started at 7:45 AM and he was exceptionally long at getting ready.
It was hard adjusting to a new sleep schedule because his old school started at 8:00 AM. Logan didn't need to worry about anything, until now. He sighed again. He even noticed his phone was overheated. "Why did I place this under my pillow all night again?" Logan sleepily muttered.
He decided that sitting in the darkness of his new room wasn't going to get him anywhere, so after two minutes the brunette finally rolled off his bed and went in the shower. Logan took longer than usual, mostly because that was from his internalized anxiety from wanting to make a good impression in front of a new school. But, it was high school for God's sake, and senior year. Who was paying their attention to him, and who even cared about looks anyway?
He did. He cared immensely about looks. Logan Mitchell was a lot of things, and one of those things were his self consciousness, body dysmorphia, and impulse to be accepted or looked by someone.
Skipping the preparation process, it was finally 7:35 AM, which meant 10 minutes to get to school. He trotted to the kitchen that was just a few steps away from his bedroom. His mom was up, and the lights were on so Logan could see that his mom was still unpacking dishes and pots and plates and putting them in cabinets.
Logan cleared his throat and his apprehensive, clearly stressed mother jumped and turned on her heel to see her son awkwardly standing beside the counter, his hands deep in the pockets of his denim jeans.
"Shit, Logan! You made me nearly drop this plate. Oh, God, I forgot today was your first day of school. Oh, God, I forgot to make you breakfast-"
Logan swiftly laughed, walking around the counter to give his mother a kiss on the cheek and a warm hug. He may have been seventeen and was preparing to enter medical school after high school, but the soft spot he had for his mother and just overall kindness ever since his father left was still engraved in his characteristics and mannerisms.
"Mom, you're too stressed. You should take a break and then a nap. I'll go to school myself."
"But your first day at a new school.. I gotta drop you off. And you haven't eaten.." Joanna nervously said, setting down the last plate she was holding in her hand in the empty spot next to other various plates in the upper cabinet.
"I'll.. get something from the vending machine. I'm sure they have one." Logan shrugged.
Joanna sighed, brushed off her hands and leaned her hands and back on the sink. Locking glances with the floor for a while, she shook her head. "I'll drop you off at school. We have to go now because of registration and you have to receive your schedule. So, are you ready?"
"Uh.." Logan stopped to eye himself from his chest to his feet. "Yeah. I just gotta get my bag."
Joanna nodded and sent Logan a signal to receive his belongings. In his room, he heard the dangling of her car keys (that was shipped from Texas to Minnesota) and suddenly a knot twisted in his stomach. But he untangled that sudden out of nowhere knot and cleared his throat. It was a Wednesday, the middle of the week. Things were bound to go okay.
He hoped.
The tense brunette ran out his door and outside to the car that was already starting with his mother inside. He closed the passenger's side door and gave his mom an eager look.
