Clover looked around the room and smiled. Sitting next to her was her wonderful boyfriend, Nick. On her other side was her ex-boyfriend and good friend, Aaron. Across from her sat her friend of a year, Jenny. They were passing around a bottle of Southern Comfort. She was completely relaxed.
"What time is your mom gonna be home, Clove?" Aaron asked, then took a shot of the semi-sweet, amber-colored alcohol.
"Not for another three hours," she replied as she reached for the bottle. "What time do you have to be at work, Jen?"
"In about a half hour. I better get going."
"You're actually going to go to work when you're drunk?" Nick asked incredulously.
"Why not? I'm a telemarketer. I'll I have to do is sit on the phone and talk. Besides, by the time the bus gets me there, I'll be sober," Jenny said, stumbling over Clover's dog on the way to the door. "Y'all have fun, 'Kay?"
"Take it easy!" Clover said her farewell.
