They walked along the red pavement, the trees that stood along were skirted by pools of brown leaves that fell occasionally, just like two years back.
flashback, two years ago " Mark, wait! You're walking too fast! "
" hurry up, Areum! I want to show you something! " smiled 16 year old Mark, pulling the slightly younger girl behind him as they arrived at the red pavement.
" They are pretty aren't they? " Mark remarked, slowin down and looking at the brown leaves that slowly fell onto the ground.
" What did you bring me here for, Mark? " asked Areum somewhat impatiently, " what's so important? "
Mark gathered up his confidence before turning around to face the brunette, " i like you, areum. Do you want to be my girlfriend? " he asked, biting his lip nervously and waiting for a response.
" i- urm sure! why not? "
" really? " Mark exclaimed, looking at his crush.
" i like you too. " she lied easily, faking a smile and holding his hand.
flashback, 1 year ago Mark walked alone on the same red pavement. It was their one year anniversary but Areum said that she was too busy to go on a date. He kicked the leaves beneath his feet and enjoyed the cold breeze blowing on his face.
The place was filled with couples. Some walked hand in hand and enjoyed the view while others enjoyed their picnic on the ground that was littered with leaves.
He carried on walking, hands deep in his pockets while feeling out of place. His eyes skimmed over the different couples when one pair caught his eye. He frowned, narrowing his eyes at the familiar figure kissing another guy.
He tried to walk past them as casually as possible but failed when he made eye contact with the girl, gasping out loud in shock.
Areum pushed the guy away from her, scurrying up to Mark and grasping his hands tightly.
" Mark, listen to me. It's not what it looks like. He's my urm friend. yes. i- "
" Hey baby, who is this? " the tanner guy asked, wrapping his hands around her waist and looking at Mark with curiosity.
Mark scoffed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. " so you're busy with him huh. "
" baby, who is this? " the guy repeated, staring down at his girlfriend who smirked evilly.
" since you saw, he is my boyfriend, " she started, " I'm just playing with you, I don't even have feelings for you. "
Mark grit his teeth in anger. for almost a year, he believed that her feelings to him were genuine but he was proven wrong.
" you don't deserve anyone. You're just a piece of worthless trash, even your parents hate you, " Areum whispered into his ear, smirking at the effect she knew she was going to have on him.
Mark spun around, feeling tears prick at his eyes. He stared at the leaves overhead as his feet brought him forward and away from his cheating ex-girlfriend.
I'm never gonna fall in love again.

" What do you want areum? " Mark asked, pushing the painful memories to the back of his head.
Areum took out her phone, pressing the play button on a 10 second video which showed y/n and Seunghun laughing and joking like a couple from a distance.
" I wanted to show this to you, I don't want anyone cheating on you. I truly regretted what I've done to you last year, " she lied, trying to look as remorseful as she could, " He forced me to lie, I still love you mark. "
His mind couldn't process what he had just heard, his heart rate increased drastically as he looked at Areum with a straight face.
" Mark, I really love you, please, " she pleaded, " give me another chance. "
" but y/n is my- "
" she doesn't have to know, " she said softly, wrapping her arms around Mark's torso, " I love you "
