Bringing an end to a painful dry-eye condition:
* Blink often while staring at a screen.
* Minimize screen-staring.
* Use preservative-free artificial tears if you need to apply them more than four times a day. (The chemical used as a preservative aggravates the irritation.)
* Protect eyes from the venting puffs of a CPAP machine (used during sleep to prevent apnea) with a regular sleep mask over the eyes.
* Stay indoors when pollen count is high. (Four evergreens in the backyard didn't help, earlier in this episode.)
* Stay indoors when wildfire smoke has drifted into your neighborhood. (The US west coast is afire.)
