I walked to the fire pit, the thick darkness engulfed the fire. The stars shone like a million diamonds. I heard a shuffle behind me.
"Hello chief" I said without turning around.
"Face me, Callum"
I then turned around. His face was sullen and his frown lines showed very clearly.
"Callum, what I am about to tell you, tonight, it may change your life."
I intaked sharply.
"Yes Chief".
"Callum, call me uncle please",
"Yes...uncle". I hated calling him uncle. He was a wanted criminal, known for murder of Robert and Stacey...my parents. I despised him.
"Come to the fire pit now", he ordered.
"Yes sir", I said.
"Uncle",He spat.
"Uncle", I repeated.
I walked over to the fire pit, my hands sweating...'what I am about to tell you, tonight, it may change your life' those words were a heavy weight on my shoulders. What did he mean? Is it what I think it is? Oh god. I need to go now. Before they get me. Shit. A hand touched my shoulder.
"Callum, come on, chief will be angry" Said Sam quietly.
"But..." I stammered
"Come on!" He grabbed my arm and dragged me to the fire pit, we sat down and listened to chief as the roaring flames disappeared into the clear night sky.
"As you know this news is...life changing. As you also know we are being watched by the goverment of the city. Well they have decided to....to wipe all outcasts."
A huge gasp erupted from the pit. I started shaking.
"So we need to pack our things...and leave."
Somone shouted out
"Where the hell are we meant to go?" That was Buck. He robbed a bank with the help of Cara, a 20 year old genius.
"We will go further out. Into the forests. We will go into hiding."
"How can 457 criminals go into hiding?" Said Sam. He shoplifted. Got given a warning, then sold crack. Got chucked, like the rest of us.
"458 actually", said a tall thin guy, wearing crooked glasses.
"This is Conrad" Chief gestured to the new guy.
"He was working with the government, until he hacked into their headquarters and found out all the information about every person in the city, every outcast, and...every Garason. Conrad can help us escape, and keep safe from the government and the Garasons." Everyone went silent. Rose. I...can't leave Rose.
"We leave tommorow. Oh and one more thing, someone here is a traitor. He is talking to a girl from the city.
Callum, come here"
I went cold. I felt like I was gonna throw up. I felt all eyes on me as I walked over to my uncle.
"Get a gas light and a gun" Chief demanded.
I looked around my hands shaking, he can't, he wouldn't, kill me? Sam looked at me his eyes full of terror. I had to escape, now. But before I could Somone grabbed my hands and shoved me forward into the woods. The other outcasts followed. We entered the woods.
"Callum is a traitor. I hope you all know what happens to traitors."
He held a gun up to my head. The steel was cold against my temple. Rose...ROSE! I need to escape, I need to get to her. I felt it all come up then, I vomited all over the floor, it kept coming up. When I stopped, Chief tightened his grip on the gun. This was it. He pulled the trigger, BANG. I cried nout, only to find out I wasn't dead. I opened my eyes. I was facing a Garason.
"We need to run, now" The Garason said. She was a girl. She saved me. We then started to sprint through the woods. Away from death.
