The storm had struck the kingdom more violently than the last. The lightning flashed in the sky, every now and then casting light onto the ground below, illuminating the hundreds of figures, screaming and cheering, gathered around two men dueling, one young, and one old. Swords clashed, but the sound was drowned out by the terrific storm that raged and crashed over head. The young man tried and tried, but he eventually tired, and his attacks became less powerful, and he started to shake under the weight of his opponents attacks. The old man laughed, and in a sudden swipe, one single movement, knocked the sword right out of the young mans hand and pushed him to the floor. He then stared down at him, with his cold, dead eyes.
"You were always a weakling, Ishmay." Ishmay looked bravely into the terrifying figures green eyes, which seemed to glow in the dark. The people looking on had all gone quiet. Their hope of escaping a life filled of darkness and torment, had been defeated. The evil king would once again win, just like he had with every other person he had ever battled against. But Ishmay was not like these other people. He looked to his left, at a woman who was crying, pleading with the king. She was different from the others, beautifully dressed, and beautiful in every other way. Her long brown hair was matted and messy because of the hell she'd been put through since she first came to the kingdom. She looked at Ishmay, lying on the ground, about to be murdered, put down, by none other then his father.
No. Not this time.
As the king bellowed out to the crowd about his coward son, how he was going to kill him, he stood up, and raised his hand up in the air. No body but the young lady that was begging for Ishmay's life to be spared noticed as a shot of lightning hit Ishmay in the hand, and formed a magnificent, jagged black sword.
"I am Ishmay Solwin!" He shouted, thick black hair covering his face, as his father turned to him. "And I will never let ANYONE hurt my people!" The king laughed, looking at him, making him feel weaker by the second.
"But you forget my boy." The King drew closer to him, raising his hands slowly, the wind starting to howl even stronger then before.
"I.." He raised his right hand, uprooting a tree from the ground using the wind, throwing it at the castle tower behind Ishmay, crumbling the magnificent home he had grew up in into rubble.
"AM..." He shouted at the sky, the clouds seeming to rip open, and pour down rain strong enough to cause a flood in seconds.
"GOD!" Suddenly, the skies brightened, and the rain ceased. The clouds turned white, and separated, and the sun came out for what seemed to be the first time in years. The king turned and stared at Ishmay, grasping his had at his heart. "I cannot die. I cannot die." His breathing became shallow and raspy, as he gasped for air that was no longer reaching his lungs. "But..." He looked at his son, staring at the clean, unused sword that was still in his hand. His eyes widened, as he looked to the young girl standing just beside them, the one who had been begging and crying, quickly slip a bloodied knife into her pocked.
He laughed. He laughed his cold, hard dead laugh one more time, just before shouting one last word at his only son, who would, in the future, be called a hero.
"COWARD!"
For years, the new King, King Ishmay the Powerful, would be seen as the hero of the people. He truly was a hero of the people, as he gave them new lives, a new kingdom, and most importantly, hope. The days of evil seemed to be over. The old kingdom was quickly abandoned after mysterious murders started to occur, and villagers claimed seeing spirits, and goblins. That was when the feared and great kingdom of Solwinmort was built, and where Ishmay has resided for eight years. Usually the true hero would step forward and take their place on the throne, but no one had thought anything of how Ishmay was shocked his father was killed, how he didn't know it had happened, how his sword was completely clean. No one would have ever expected that the person who killed Rakgannon the Evil, was a woman, never mind the fact that that woman would one day become Ishmay's bride.
