He stayed put. Andy, who doesn't like defiance. Walked up to him and scared the baby half to death. But soon, they were laughing? And Andy never laughs.
"Come over here kiddo." I walked slowly knowing I was his "kiddo". "Don't start wimping out on me you won't survive the night!" He put his hand on my back and shoved towards the kid. Usually, the gesture was backwards.
"What the heck, Andy?" I eyed him cautiously. And held his gaze.
I guess I was feeling brave that day. Have you ever walked down the street when you where little and some dog starts viscously barking at you from inside his chicken wire pen? Bouncing on the makeshift, cheap fence and causing the "Beware The Dog" sign to bounce? And your parents are like, "Sweetie keep walking." But you just stand there because when you are little every puppy is adorable? "Sweetie, don't look it in the eye. They take it as a threat."
Your mommy was right. They do. And my brothers and I fight like dogs. And I was darn ready for that challenge.
