aurora, much to her dismay, was an ordinary teenage girl. her family were driven by magic and every person in her household was a witch or wizard, leaving her to ponder as to why she didn't have the same gifts. the day her twin sister received an acceptance letter from hogwarts her family were overjoyed, and aurora felt so misplaced as she was surrounded by people who had abilities she would never have.
being accepted to hogwarts was a huge deal to her parents, and isabelle was accomplishing everything her parents had ever wanted. their parents didn't love aurora any less, but they'd probably cherish her more if she too were a witch like her sister. that's not to say she wasn't equally as interesting as her sister, because she was. they might have looked identical but they were not much alike. isabelle was obedient & charming, whereas aurora was ambitious & deviant.
the beginning of the school year was approaching, and their parents were overwhelmed with preparing for isabelle's first day at hogwarts, leaving aurora to sit around and help with whatever she could. she was sat on the couch enjoying a bowl of cereal before being interrupted by her sister, who abruptly sat herself down.
"i think mum and dad are overdoing it a bit, eh?" her sister snickered as she grabbed the remote and switched the television channel, causing a groan to escape auroras mouth.
the brunette shrugged and fed herself another spoon full of cereal. "i guess. it's important to them, you know? at least one of their daughters will be successful at something."
they sat in silence as they continued to watch the television. it wasn't an awkward silence, but it wasn't exactly pleasant for either of them. the door swung open and in walked their mum with plastic bags in each of her hands, she was blowing her hair out of her face as she set everything down on the table.
"merlin! that was exhausting." her breathing was heavy as she filled a glass of water, taking a sip and letting out a sigh of relief.
auroras eyes shifted to the bags that now lay on the table, and her mind began to flood with ideas of what was inside each of them. more than likely they were all for her sister, but she held out hope her mum had bought her something too.
"what did you get?" isabelle asked, breaking the silence.
the older woman laughed, "what didn't i get? i want you to be best prepared for school, isabelle."
at this point, aurora had zoned out. she didn't want to hear about how proud her mum was of her sister, and how much she was looking forward to seeing her daughter waving her wand around. letting out a huff, the irritated girl got up and went back to her room, slamming the door ever so slightly before sinking down onto her bed and plugging her earphones in, blasting music.
she lay there, nodding along to the beat of the song as she stared at the white ceiling.
why wasn't she a witch? why hadn't she been blessed with those abilities? what was wrong with her?her bedroom door flung open and in walked her sister, her face pale as she stood there with a concerned expression. she made her way over to aurora and sat herself down on the end of the bed, playing with her fingers.
"i'm not well." her sister stated blankly.
aurora examined her sisters face, not sure what she was searching for. "okay?"
isabelle's actions were making aurora nervous. she let out a sigh, the silence was deafening. "i don't think you understand what i'm trying to say."
"i don't think i do." the girl replied, her eyebrows raised in suspicion.
"i can't attend school. not while i'm sick."
there it was.
the sentence that had been making isabelle shake. auroras eyes widened and she began to feel sympathetic, she knew how excited her sister had been to start at hogwarts.
"oh. i'm sorry." she sent her sister a small smile, not sure what else to do in this situation.
isabelle moved herself closer to her younger sister, (although she was only younger by 3 minutes), and grabbed her hands. " i have to ask a favour."
the air was thick with suspense and both girls were sat beside one another, both equally as nervous. isabelle avoided making eye contact with her sister as her eyes wandered around the small, but nicely decorated, bedroom. aurora was annoyed at this point. couldn't her sister just spit it out?
isabelle let out a breath that she had been holding, "ineedyoutoattendhogwartsforme."
auroras eyebrows furrowed with confusion, "what did you say?"
"i need you to attend hogwarts for me, aurora."
suddenly auroras mind was overflowing with thoughts, and she couldn't hear anything her sister was saying anymore as she sat there in shock. she was snapped out of her trance when her hand was squeezed.
"i know it sounds scary but we look the same so maybe-" isabelle began but was soon interrupted.
"scary? it's terrifying! we couldn't possible pull that off, izzy! we may look alike but we are two different people!" aurora spoke, her tone rising as she stood up and paced around the room. the room was spinning and she suddenly felt dizzy.
"just sit down and listen to me!" her sister hissed in annoyance.
aurora sat herself back down on the bed, but not as close to her sister as she had previously been. she dropped her head into her hands and let out a shaky breath. she could never get away with being her sister.. could she?
"it wouldn't last long. i can't have my attendance ruined because of a stupid sickness. you understand, right?"
of course she understood.
she understood her sister didn't want to ruin her perfect attendance. but what she didn't understand was why she couldn't just live with it. why did she have to try find a solution for everything?"no. it's ridiculous. i won't do it, i'm sorry." aurora finally spoke, lifting her head up and looking at her sister who was now frowning.
isabelle grabbed the sides of her sisters face, making direct eye contact. "please? i am begging you. i've spoken to mum, she isn't delighted but she also wants to keep my attendance perfect."
maybe it wouldn't be so bad. maybe they could pull it off, and maybe aurora would actually enjoy her time spent at the school.
letting out a sigh of defeat, she nodded. "okay."
her sisters eyes sparkled with delight, "okay? okay as in.. you'll do it?"
"i'll do it."
