CHAPTER 1
"A new day, a fresh start. A new day a fresh start.". I say to myself as I stare at the huge building with CURTIN UNIVERSITY written boldly on it. My dream. A smile creeps up my face.
"You ready?" I turn to look at my oldest brother, Michael. He took up the role of my father in my life ever since our father passed away whilst I was still young. .Nine years, maybe. Michael is good at what he does, that is being the CEO of Forbes Industries. He took care of all of us. From Steven, who is a big-time criminal lawyer at the Vegan Firm, to James, who is a popular musician with a voice I oh so envy. Then to Kenneth, my twin brother, who is in Oxford. I miss him every passing second. We were practically best friends. In every sense of the word.
I turn to Michael and nod. Michael's chauffeur moves to park at the parking lot as we make our way towards the building. Eyes turn to us, and I know it's because of the business mogul beside me. I am used to it. I mean, I am a no one in society, but my siblings are. Which explains why Kenneth and I are verified on Instagram and twitter, although Kenneth likes to believe it's because of his good looks.
The building is much bigger from the inside. Everyone seems to be busy. We walk to the front desk and the lady there directs us to the main office. I remain quiet the whole time as Michael does all the talking. At this point, I enjoy being a nineteen-year-old girl moving into the bigger world.
"Miss. Bethany?"
I look up at the burly man sitting before me. Obviously, the dean. Like most of the deans I've heard of, he is partially bald and looks like he'd love to be anywhere else than here.
"Yes Mr.- "I look down at the name tag on his table- "Humphrey."
"I hope you enjoy your time in Curtin. Are you staying on campus?"
"Nah. I have an apartment not too far from here," An apartment I am yet to see.
"Very well then. It seems you are late, since classes begun two days ago. How about you go find the class you have? The professors are still handling introduction."
"Sure. Thanks."
Michael and I walk out and towards the exit of the building.
"When do I get to see my apartment then? I thought you were going to take me." I ask Michael.
"Your dean says you have class. How about I leave the key at the receptionist after dropping your things off. After your last class, you can go there. I made one of my men bring your car yesterday. It's parked in the third lane. Lane AS 123. Here." He hands me the keys. Typical Michael. Always set for everything.
"Very well then. My guess is you are going back to L.A."
"Yes. I have a flight to catch in two hours. You gon' be okay, B?"
"Yes" I reply with the confidence I don't feel.
He pulls me into a tight hug and I try my best to hold back the tears. My first time living apart from my family. Sometimes I dreamt of this day. You know, free from the baby treatment when ever the boys were home. I enjoyed the gifts, of course. They all treat me like I'm some fragile egg. Even Kenneth, who is the same age as me.
I still remember my break up with my first and only boyfriend. Michael almost put his parents out of business, James released a diss track for him, and Steven was hell bent on creating a case that wasn't even there. Kenneth beat him up, obviously. Daniel, my other best friend, was the only one who understood that making him pay wasn't going to bring me any sort of comfort. But I never stopped them because I did love Colton. And he broke my hear into million pieces which till date, haven't been fixed.
