AndromedaFinch looked up toward the sky, hoped her mother was paying attention, and begged to know what she had ever done to deserve this.
Surely, it had to be a joke her siblings decided to play on her. They knew the girl had been dreading her turn for Cabin Ten's so called "rite of passage," and figured it would be funny to freak her out a little more, but would eventually laugh at her and say Just kidding! We'd never do that to you!
Except they continued to stare at her not laughing at all.
"Stop being so overdramatic, Andy. It's hardly something to pray to Mom about," Silena said with a sigh as she saw Andromeda tilt her head toward the sky. "Honestly, I don't know what the big deal is. He's hot."
"He smells like the ocean!" Andromeda replied with a groan.
"The smell of a beach seems pretty erotic to me," Drew told her with a laugh. "And Silena's right, Jackson has gotten pretty attractive over the years. Just be glad we didn't give you the Ares kid who's missing his front teeth."
"I would prefer him. Please switch it, Silena. Anyone but Percy."
Okay, so it wasn't like Percy Jackson was the worst boy at camp, because he wasn't. Pretty far from it, actually, but this whole tradition already had Andromeda stressed and uneasy, and the only thing that kept her from backing out was the knowledge that her task would most likely be easy. She would smile, flirt a little, charmspeak her way into their hearts in a few days, then break up with them and call it a week. But that plan wouldn't work with Percy Jackson. Andromeda had a dreadful feeling that almost no plan would work on Percy Jackson, not when he was already utterly in love with someone else.
"Too late to switch it now, Andy. All of us agreed on it," Silena told her with a shrug. Matt and Drew nodded along with her, and Andromeda about burst into tears.
"But that's impossible! You can't give me someone that would never fall in love with me. And it's hardly fair either! How come you get to go after Beckendorf, who has clearly had a crush on you for years, and I get someone completely emotionally unavailable?" Andromeda asked. Her siblings all share a look and glance back at her with fake sympathy.
"We are giving you someone who will be a challenge, sure, but not someone impossible," Silena replied. "Because at the end of the day, Percy has a crush on Annabeth because she's practically the only one who's around him all the time. If you start to put yourself into the picture, then it gives him a whole new option that he would never even dream he would have, Andy. Trust us, he's still a naive teenage boy who will get a crush on a pretty girl that gives him attention."
