Alex was kind enough to drive by Oscar's shop so that Delila could get some additional things from her car. Yesterday she didn't really expect to be needing club attire when she packed her overnight bag.
Afterwards he dropped her back off at the BnB, since she felt that today it was going to take her a very, very long time to get ready for this night out. Not only to glam up, but to prepare mentally....
As she just closed the front door, she heard Rose calling out.
"Delila, honey, is that you?" Rose appeared in the door to the sunroom.
"Did you have a nice day so far? Oh, and I see that you brought more of your things. Does that mean I get to enjoy your company a little longer?"
Delila chuckled, that woman made her feel more at home here than her own mother ever had done at her actual home.
"We will have to see about me staying longer. Nothing is decided yet. But Alex and Trey are going to take me out dancing tonight. And as I intend to try and look my best, I needed some fancier clothes."
"I see... dancing...." Rose carefully watched her with a pensive expression as if she was deliberating something. "Honey, do you think you have the time to come and sit with me for a minute?"
"Sure..." Delila said as they walked back to the sunroom, where Rose had a pot of tea waiting on a warmer. That felt almost premeditated.
After they both were comfortable, each with a cup of tea in hands, Rose finally seemed ready to tell her what was bothering her.
"Sweetheart, I am going to be very intrusive right now and give you some unsolicited advice. Whether you choose to either follow or ignore it, is completely up to you.
I won't judge either way, because, let's be honest, it's actually so none of my business."
Even though that all sounded quite ominous, Delila couldn't help but smile at her. The way Rose was fidgeting and looking at her, you could clearly see that she took this whole situation to heart.
"I got the impression that you are rather... smitten... with Alex?"
How sweet... smitten....
"Well, there certainly is an attraction.... "
"Yes, a handsome young devil, this one. Always has been. Quite the charmer too..."
"So far, I don't disagree... "
Rose relaxed a little and her eyes twinkled at Delila over her tea cup.
"What I am actually trying to say is, that I hope you keep your heart guarded. Alex, persistent as he is, can get lost in the chase. So much so, that he tends to forget everything that was, is, or could be but his next... target...?"
"So, you are basically telling me, that he is a player?"
"Not necessarily.... it's more like he can be very single-minded and focused on himself. Both in his private life as well as regarding his business."
Yeah... Delila wasn't really sure what to make of all that. This impromptu meeting sure started to feel like a mix between intervention and fortune telling.
"But enough of that now. You are a grown woman, very capable of making your own choices. I said my piece, even though nobody wanted me too and besides, what do I even know? I might have misread the whole situation."
Right when it started to get interesting. All those vague remarks were more confusing than anything else. She should be careful but he wasn't a player?
"Well, in any case, I am grateful that you are trying to look out for me. I am not sure what is going to happen between Alex and I, but I'll make sure to keep your words in mind."
Delila finished her tea and thanked Rose again for caring enough to talk to her. But then she quickly made her way up to her room. This grown ass woman needed some serious bubble bath time after all this.
....
Shortly after he was back home and just about to grab a beer from the fridge, Alex heard the front door open and close. And strolling in came Trey, like he owned the place.
"Just so you know.... you are an asshole!"
"Well, hello to you too, Trey... what do you want... besides insulting me?" He leaned against the counter, arms crossed.
"Cut the crap. You are not nearly as stupid as you look. So why the hell do you think you, of all people, can tell me to back off Delila?"
"Beer...?"
Trey just raised an eyebrow at him, but at least he took the damn bottle. Alex walked over into the living room and let himself slump down on one of the sofas. He made a gesture for Trey to join him on the other one.
He made himself comfortable, stretching out his long legs in front of him, all whilst still managing to angrily glare at Alex.
"Shouldn't you take care of that?" Trey pointed at the constantly flashing phone in Alex's left hand. Sooner rather than later he would really have to deal with that annoying thing, or that permanently blinking light would for sure trigger some sort of seizure. But that was none of Trey's business.
"Not right now I don't."
"So, to come back to the topic.... Delila?"
"What do you mean? You've met her.... those curves, the hair... her smile. And she's smart and funny too... how could I not go for her? How could I not want her? She drives me crazy..."
"Yeah... I can see that. And you really see no problem at all here?"
Taking a sip of his beer, Alex smirked at him. "Nope... not all. As we both know, time flies. Even more so when you're having fun."
"Well then, for the record, I still think you are an idiot and that you're very much in a gray area here. You just could and should straighten things out."
Alex wanted to reply something but Trey wasn't finished yet: "And by the way... if Delila wants me, it's game on. We are not dogs in a park where you just can pee on her and she's automatically yours. Now go and get your ugly face ready, we have places to be!"
