I'm sitting on the window seat in the plane admiring the night sky. Just an hour ago, I said goodbye to my teary eyed mother who dropped me at the airport in the midnight. It's not easy when your family is not nearby and you're trying to figure out your 20s. However, it makes me more grateful for the times that I do get to spend with them. You just appreciate it more.

Where will life take me?

I landed at JFK Airport around three in the morning and now I'm waiting for my best friend Alice to pick me up.

"FWEET...WOOOWEETTWOO!!!!" I jumped at the sound. I literally fell down on the hard ground.

"ALICE!!!!! "I screamed when I saw her laughing from the corner of my eye, causing strangers to search for the source.

"YOU LITTLE.... WHAT THE F...." I managed to get myself up with the backpack on my shoulder. Her eyes still brimmed with tears of mirth and the smile tugging her lips broke into a grin.

"Hazel darling...you need to calm down." She changed her facial features in seconds to a one that belongs to an innocent child giving puppy eyes, like she did nothing.

She came out of the car slowly, probably thinking about her next move. But before she could do anything I ran in her direction and slapped on the back of her head. "Ouch!"

"I'm sorry." She looked up like a child who stole something from their parents and caught red handed.

She covered herself with her arms as I motioned my hand towards her like I'm going to hit her again. But I took her by surprise as I wrapped my arms around her.

"I missed you... my girl." I said in all honesty. Even if I try to, I can never get mad at her.

"Aww...I missed you too. The apartment doesn't feel the same without you." She gave me a long hug.

"Alice, it's getting late. Let's go" We put the suitcase and backpack in the trunk and left the airport.

Besides best friends, Alice is someone who's more like a sister to me. We met at our college dorm. I still remember the first day when I saw her. She was wearing a red crop top with blue shorts. And when she saw me she gave me a genuine smile that reached her big bright blue eyes. She helped me unpack and organise my stuff, even though she absolutely didn't have to. And then in the evening we watched a movie and laughed a lot. Since then we're inseparable.

There are a lot of happy memories we share together. She's always there for me no matter what and loves me for who I am. She's truly one in a million.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome the royal queen of Chicago.... HAZEL WILLIAMS." She announced as I unlocked our apartment's door.

"Stop it Alice." I elbowed her and continued, "You're gonna piss our neighbours off. And who knows, You and I'd be dead when we wake up."

"That's actually fun. We'd be ghosts flying around. I swear we'd scare the shit out of them." We both giggled. I'm so happy to see her again.

"Come on. We better go to bed now. Do you wanna miss your chance to see the one and only Taylor Swift?"

"Noooo. Let's crash the bed."

I was so tired that I woke up at eleven in the morning. I stretched my arms and sat up on our comfy bed.

Alice was still sleeping on my left with her arms and legs going in different directions. I closed her mouth, which was hanging open. I laughed at the sight and got out of the bed.
