Recap: “Hey Patricia, where did you go when McKenna was ranting on the table about me?”

She winked at me and said, “Where do you think the spaghetti came from?”

My mouth dropped open in shock. Flora was equally surprised, and she almost yelled, “That was you?!”

Patricia nodded, “Sure was, I knew whatever she was going to say would be stupid, so I decided that someone needed to stop her in her tracks. Spaghetti does a wonderful job of making a mess, don’t you think?”

We all nodded and giggled, walking out of the lunchroom as the bell rang.

Victoria’s POV

Flora and I headed outside, leaving Patricia to attend her next class. She said that she had a cool class about foods for people who could turn invisible. Apparently, they had a special diet that optimized the effectiveness of their powers.

I headed towards the field for my physical skill class, while Flora practically sprinted towards the greenhouse. She loved being in there; if we weren’t talking about something else, Flora would usually be talking about plants. She described the greenhouse as her second home; I believed her when she said she could spend hours in there.

Today in my skill class, our teacher, Mrs. Rigby let us actually utilize our skills, rather than making us sit and listen. She had decided overnight that the first kind of takeoff we were going to master is while running. When I took off, I was usually standing still, so I was actually happy we were going to be doing something useful in this class.

In previous years, physical skill classes had either been semi-useful, or just plain pointless. It wasn’t like we had grown up not flying and were just learning how to use our powers now. Flying was natural for us all, and we attended schools to refine the skills we already had. It was pointless to try and “teach” us what we already all knew.

Throughout the class, each takeoff I had was more solid, stronger. By the end of the class, I was no longer needing a pause in my speed in order to take off. My calves were on fire, as were my thighs, but I told myself that it was worth it. Learning these techniques would benefit me, and I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to improve myself.

I heard a distant bell while I was in the air, and I descended to the ground immediately. Mrs. Rigby praised a select number of people for the success they displayed during today’s class, and I was among them. I smiled brightly when she said my name, and her warm smile in return lifted my spirits.

When I walked into my next class, Emotions and Flying, my mood had not fallen. I was flying high, mood-wise, and I was loving it. It was rare that a good mood stuck with me very long, especially when I was in school. McKenna made sure that a majority of my life was miserable.

Emotions and Flying, as well as P.E., passed by quickly. In P.E., I joined in a game of kickball with several other students. We were always allowed to use our powers in P.E., and some sports were dominated by students of a certain skill. Other sports, like kickball, allowed students of various skills to excel. While flyers could easily catch balls in the air, the speedy students were hard to get out. Students with super strength could easily bring in a bunch of runners, and because of these various factors, the teams were split up fairly easily. A proportionate amount of each skill was on each team. Games of kickball usually ended up in a tie, actually.

After P.E., Flora, Patricia, and I changed and headed back to our lockers. Once we had grabbed all of our stuff, Patricia waved goodbye as she headed over to Steven and his car. Flora and I watched as they gave each other a lingering hug, and they then both climbed into his car, driving out the parking lot quickly.
