02|The Second Chapter.

Now playing 'SAY YOU LOVE ME' by KIDI

JAELYN

A gust of wind blew through my window, and I shivered. I pulled my blanket tighter around my body and let out a shaky breath.

I opened my eyes and stared out the window for some time. Spending two-thirds of my military training in the kingdom of Asase, I forgot how cold Nsuo could be.

In terms of climate, Nsuo got the short end of the stick, when compared to the other kingdoms of Privet; it was either really cold and snowy or wet and rainy. This helped in our controlling of water immensely, but it still had its disadvantages, this being I couldn't get a good night's sleep without feeling chilly.

Times like this are when I missed the perfect weather of the Asase.

I might as well get ready since I'm already up.

I sent Peai a text, asking if she wanted to go exploring today, she immediately texted back and replied that she'd stop by quarter to eight, to avoid traffic.

I washed my face and brushed my teeth, put on some jogging gear and made my way downstairs.

My parents arrived late last night from their dinner date and my mother was currently making breakfast, while my father read the newspaper.

"Maami, me ma wo m'aakye" ( Good morning Mommy)  I kissed her cheek and she hummed in response.

The people of Privet spoke two languages; Twi, and English, both of which I spoke fluently.

"Did you sleep well?" I nodded and placed a metal spoon into the bowl of piping hot millet porridge.

"Ma, I missed your cooking" I moaned at the nutty and spicy taste of the porridge and finished my meal in no time,

"Do you want seconds?" Ma asked from behind the sink where she'd begun the dishes.

" No, I'm going out with Peai in a few minutes, ill feel drowsy if I eat too much." I sneaked behind her and stealthily added my bowl and spoon to the pile she was washing. "But don't you have to go to the hospital today?" I asked peeking over her shoulder.

"Of course not I retired earlier this year, did you forget?" I froze. I didn't forget I just was never told.

"No, I don't think you guys ever mentioned it" I blinked and washed my hands in the sink. Ma glanced at Dad as they exchanged a look before he turned his eyes back to the newspaper he was reading. A loud cling rang through the house and I kissed Ma on the cheek goodbye. "Peai's here. I'll see you guys this evening" I rushed to the front door and opened it to find a tall figure dressed in grey.

"Fuck" My right hand gripped the door and I was tempted to slap it in his face. "What are you doing here?" I glanced at the single rose he held, the thorns meticulously removed.

"I heard you were back so I decided to stop by. Are your parents inside?" I quickly stepped outside and closed the door behind me in fear that someone would see him. "They're not" I stood at least a head shorter than him and had to stretch my neck to get a good view of his face. "Really? I could've sworn I saw your dad's car parked outside"

"Get to the point Daniel" I exclaimed in frustration my eyes glued to his lips and the slight stubble he had. I thought he was in the past and I didn't want to see him just yet it was too soon especially now with the shiny gold band he had stuck to his finger.

"I came to see you, it's been 4 years Jae didn't you miss me?" I let out a shaky breath. I did all through my time serving until I received his wedding invitation.
