(Ethan's POV)
"Aww, you didn't have to do that," I said as I walked up to Mark, grabbing his hands to make him stop doing my dishes. I looked into his eyes and my heart jumped. God he's so FUCKING PRETTY. HIS EYES, HIS HAIR.
I keep looking at his lips. Dear God, I'm so weird.
"Ah, well," he started. "I like taking care of people. Plus, I wanted to thank you for letting me stay." I realized that I had been holding his hands the whole time and quickly let go. I hope he doesn't think I'm weird. Jesus what is wrong with me? He does have surprisingly gentle hands, though.
I nudged Mark over and started to do the rest of the dishes myself. "Well, thank you, Mark. That's really nice of you." I said. "Oh, about that, why did you need to come stay with me? I hope I'm not prying or anything I just-"
Mark interrupted me and gave me a small laugh, "No, no, it's fine." Mark was looking off, "I would've told you anyway. I just- Well I- Wow, I can't speak okay."
I gave him a small smile. I hope he's okay. He never stutters. He's always so perfect.
He took a deep breath and tried again, "Me and Amy are taking a break..."
Mark said it almost in a whisper. I was actually shocked I could understand him. Oh my God. Wow, I- why? I wonder if- No, no. Don't get ahead of yourself, Ethan. Okay.
"Wow. Um, okay, wow. So... What happened? Why'd you guys split up?"
Mark hesitated but answered my question. "Uhhh, well," he sighed and seamed to think for a moment before talking again. "Okay. To put it truthfully, I had started to develop feelings for someone else and decided that I needed time to myself to figure them out."
Wow. I spoke in a low tone, shocked, sympathetic, and yet hopeful, "Oh... Shit."
I heard Mark laugh, "Yeah."
Shitshitshitshitshit he's so cute what do I do? His laugh oh my God, I love him. I felt my face get hot. There's absolutely no way he means me. Mark is 100% straight. He probably found another cute girl that's head over heels for him. Everyone's always head over heels for Mark. I wish I was special to him. We're so close, yet I feel so far away.
"So," I said, "who's the lucky girl?" I tried to sound happy for him or curious or even worried, literally anything other than sad and jealous. I have a feeling I didn't do too well.
I heard Mark speak up, "Why'd you assume it was a girl?" I felt my face get even hotter and I tried to be as not awkward as I could. "Oh, my bad, so... who is it then?" I looked in Mark's eyes in a desperate attempt to seem fine and normal. It completely backfired because I saw him look me up and down. He's obviously suspicious.God, I'm a terrible liar.
