It was 1:13am when I woke up to my mom screaming in the basement. I'm frozen with fear. I wanted to grab my phone next to me and call the police. Tell them "Please come quick. I don't know what's happening but my mom just screamed. I think he hurt her."
But I can't. I lay there frozen and listen to it all. She screams at him to let go. That she hates him. That she wants to break up even though she's too scared to. Then slowly, footsteps appear on the basement stairs. The back door opens and slams. She doesn't know I'm awake. She doesn't want me to know he does this kind of thing. When she gets to her bedroom, right next door to mine, she sits and starts to cry. If I go see her, she'll just say "Go to bed honey. You have school in the morning." I didn't sleep the rest of that night. I don't know where Billy went.
-------
The next morning, I get up and get ready for school. I make a cup of coffee that I never finish because I only have 10 minutes to drink it. My mom is sitting at the dining room table, still in her Pj's. Without says anything, I give her a hug from behind. I guess she's still a little on edge because she jumped. Then I said it.
"What did he fucking do to you?"
She gave me the gist but I later found out the whole story.
Billy woke up in the middle of the night sleepwalking. He then, as quietly as he could, went to my moms side of the bed and stole her phone. He didn't know how this was going to go down so he also stole the house phone, so she couldn't call the police.
She woke up a few minutes later to find her phone and Billy missing. So she gets up and starts calling his name. She finds him in the basement just standing there, looking at her and saying nothing. He accused her of cheating and then started to freak out.
"Where is my phone?" She says to him.
He yells "I threw it in the fucking river." He then proceeds to grab her arms and throw her to the floor. She tries to grab the house phone from him to call the police and she doesn't even get close. He grabs her wrist and starts to twist it until it's sprained. That's when I woke up to her screaming "I HATE YOU"
She didn't know what to do, so she just walked away. Went upstairs, he followed her until he reached the backdoor and left. Still, we don't know if he actually went somewhere or just slept in his car. Either way, he woke up in his car. And when he came in and she wouldn't even look at him. He says to her
"What the is your problem?"
"You hurt me last night while you were sleepwalking." She says as she holds her injured wrist.
"Well, I don't remember. So it's not my fault."
