The door of your apartment somehow opened, as you struggled with all the groceries in your hands. You huffed as you strutted towards your kitchen, setting them on top of the counter. You ran to lock the door behind you, taking off your shoes and mask, heading towards the bathroom to wash your hands. With this stupid global pandemic, bathroom is sadly almost always the first room you have to make trip to. You just got out of your classes and it was 5pm. It was storming outside, the weather absolute disaster. Sadly, you didn't have the internet to watch or follow your boyfriend's race, making you unbelievably mad for the rest of the day. Your mood only worsened when the internet at home didn't seem to work, nothing seemed to work anymore.
"Fuck!" You yelled as you threw your phone on the couch, huffing. Nothing seemed to be going well for you today, first you got up late and had to get ready in a hurry, not managing to eat. Then, on your way to the college, you saw your local favorite food place closed so you couldn't pick up your food. Then rain started and you haven't checked the weather podcast, forgetting the umbrella. To make you even more drenched, a car splashed you with water as you were walking. The classes were boring as hell, your best friend not there. You were hungry, freezing and bored. Then, the internet wasn't working like it isn't now and you want to call Carlos but what if he's busy?
You unloaded your groceries, washed your hands (again) and headed towards your room. You stripped out of your clothes, taking some comfy underwear and one of Carlos' shirts. You headed into the bathroom, dropping things down at your feet and turning on the water, waiting for it to heat up for a few seconds. Then you entered the cubicle, your body immediately relaxing, the worries seemingly leaving your body. You took your shampoo and put it carefully in the palm of your hand, spreading it nicely all over your hair before you started massaging it on your scalp and rinsing it out. Then you conditioned your hair,  brushed it with your fingers a little bit so it was easier afterwards and rinsed it again. Not wanting to leave the warmth of shower, you stayed longer, the feeling of warm water falling onto your skin lulling you into peace. But you got out, drying yourself and putting on already chosen outfit. You brushed your hair and got out, seeing that the rain only worsened. You sat down on the bed and watched it. Even though you couldn't stand being in the rain, something about watching rain from the big, wall-sized window of your and Carlos' shared apartment gave you a sense of warmth.
You headed into kitchen, taking out 2 pieces of bread and putting them in a toaster as you put your milk in your glass, setting it on the coffee table in the living room. Toast was ready pretty soon and you sat in the living room, munching on your dinner when your phone rang. You saw the screen light up and Carlos' name appear. You picked it up almost immediately.
"Carlos, I wasn't able to watch the race or check the result, how was it?" You exclaimed loudly
"DNF" he said and you closed your eyes.
"What?" You asked and he sighed.
"There was a heavy crash in front of me and I couldn't stop the car" he said and as if he read your mind, he continued "but I'm perfectly fine"
"That's all that matters Carlos" you said and yawned.
"Listen, my flight's in an hour and I can be there at 11 best. I hear that you're tired, please go to sleep amor" he said and you smiled.
"But i want to wait for you" you said as you walked around the apartment, thunder striking just as you sat in front of the window in your bedroom.
"Amor..." he said slowly and you sighed.
"Fine. I will. See you soon Carlos" you said and smiled.
"See you soon amor" he said and you hung up, taking a book with you to the living room.
You set it down and ate your dinner, bringing the dishes to the kitchen and washing them. You left them to dry and headed to the living room, checking the time. It was 8pm. Already? You yawned and took your book with you, turning off the lights in the living room and heading to your shared room. You dropped it on bed, going to the bathroom to do your skincare routine. You took a makeup remover and took off the light makeup you had that day. You cleansed your face and washed it, putting on a face cream after brushing your teeth. You put on your lip balm and settled under the covers. You opened the book and started reading it. You didn't finish the first chapter when your eyes felt heavy just like the book in your hands. You turned the fairy lights that were on the bed frame during the entire year on, the small golden lights oozing with comfort. Switching off the lamp on your nightstand, you pulled the covers on your body. You knew that sleeping with fairy lights wasn't the best idea but in a little less than 3 hours, Carlos will be back from Italy and he'll turn it off, like he always does. With that, you fell into sleep.
Your eyes opened, immediately hurting as you took a look at the watch on the nightstand. 11:24. You turned around and saw the bathroom light on, movement inside alarming you but just as you were about to get up and grab the bat you kept under your bed (just in case, when Carlos wasn't home), door opened revealing tired looking Carlos. He smiled at you and you smiled back.
"I'm sorry I've woken you up cariño." He said as he took off his shirt, remaining in sweats, climbing into the bed next to you.
"You didn't" you said as you turned towards him. "Did you lock the door?" You asked and looked up as he nodded before switching the fairy lights off. You snuggled into his chest, the warmth of it inviting you to press a little kiss on it. You felt Carlos press a kiss to your hair, your lips curving upwards in a smile, clinging your leg over his hip.
"I missed you" you whispered
"I missed you more" he took your chin and pressed his lips on yours. The kiss lasted a few seconds but it meant so much more. For you, it felt glorious, feeling the lips of your boyfriend on yours after 3 weeks of him being away. For F1 fans it was heaven, you assumed. You were an F1  fan but more than anything, you missed Carlos. For Carlos, it was a reassurance that you are there, next to him. It is the reason why for him, coming home to you warmed his heart more than any trophy would ever.
