The bloodpact for peace has been followed and renewed for centuries now. It has never happened, even once, that it was broken. That brings us to the question at hand: What will happen if the pact is not renewed?

The calm of the ballroom was disrupted by a very fast swoosh sound. Following it was the sound of the Fire Bowl falling on the ground and the burning, almost red, coal pieces splattering around; just like the pearls would follow, out of a broken necklace thread.

Nobody spoke, for what felt like a very long time. Everyone's attention was at the dagger, which was now very firmly planted on the edge of the fallen bowl, apparently also being the one responsible for this fiasco.

My father was the first one to break out of this trance and the one to pick up the bowl.

"This turn of events is unexpected, my dear friends. But this matter will be looked into and all the packs will be informed accordingly. In the meantime, I request all of you to kindly return to your packs and maintain the word of our Moon goddess. Harm shall never befall anyone who stays true to her word. Thank you."

With this father made his way out followed by my mother and the beta couple, Adam and Lily. Jamie and I stayed behind to see off all the guests and to make sure that all the security protocols were in order.

Once everything was taken care of we decided to go meet our parents, who were still in the office.

"This is not possible. No werewolf could have breached the security aura set up by the peacemaker on the renewment day. Then from where did this dagger come from? Is there a mole among ourselves?" Beta Adam was trying to make sense out of the events that followed recently.

He did make sense though. As the present peacemaker, my father had the power of aura and he had used it to make a security barrier for the ball. No werewolf could have managed to get past it without my father knowing.

"There is no mole among the alphas who were present at the ball. I would have known if anyone would have done this from inside the room. As for the security breach, it was the work of an outsider." Father said, deleting the one and only possibility that was there.

"But George, who could have broken your aura? We all know that's impossible?" Mother put in the question that all of us had on the tip of our tongues.

"It is impossible. It is impossible for a werewolf but not for everyone else." Father tell us.

"But dad, no human can do it. In Fact, no human has ever come this far into the woods. I don't think putting humans as a potential culprit would do us any good." Jamie piped in the obvious.

"I'm not talking about humans, Jamie."

"But the other possibility is insane, dad."

"That can't be, George."

"No George"

Mother, Lily and I spoke up at the same time the moment it struck us as to what father was enunciating.

Father picked up the dagger from his table and looked at it closely, "That's the only way this could have been done." he says rolling the dagger in between his fingers "A witch. Only a witch could have done a counter spell to break my aura"

"But George, no werewolf has ever been associated with a witch before and not to mention the fact that now a very few witches live on earth and they are untraceable. Also, not forgetting that companionship of a werewolf with a witch is a crime by our laws" Beta Adam stated the facts.

During the war when the royals attacked they took help from witches to win the war. It is said that they asked the witches clan to support them and in turn they were going to give the witches a way to be immortal. But when the royals lost, witches also perished and the animosity began between the two clans. Though witches are still around, there are only a few left and that too, as beta Adam said, untraceable. So, to think that witches have decided to destroy the pact renewment is a far fetched idea.

" It is the only thought that i have at the moment, Adam." Father was still looking deeply at the dagger.

" But we have to begin somewhere or with something dad. And also, what about the renewment? It wasn't completed" I asked father, so many questions swirling in my mind.

"Zoey, I don't have any answer to the second question, yet. But I do know where to begin with our search for the culprit." He says keeping the dagger back on the table and pointing us all to look closely at it.

It was a regular dagger used by werewolves during combat. It was regular only if you couldn't see the little marking engraved on the edge. The marking was done very intricately and smoothly. It was almost impossible to notice it at first sight.

A wolf's eye with a bleeding moon in the place of iris.

It felt familiar yet I couldn't pinpoint it.

Lily was the first one to talk while all of us were still looking at the strange yet beautiful engraving.

"What does this symbol imply?"

"Bloodmoon Pack."
