*This is set in the 1940s, when the song 'You Are My Sunshine' was popularized. There is still a war, but without magic*

It was playing on the radio during their first date.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...

Newt took Tina's hand as they gazed at the stars.

"Is this our song?" Tina turned to him.

"Yes," Newt kissed her gently. "It's what Fate wants for us."

                                                                                ***

They danced to it at their wedding.

You make happy, when skies are grey...

They waltzed slowly in each other's arms.

"I love you," Newt murmured into her ear.

"I love you more," Tina kissed him.

"I can't wait to live my life with you. I can't believe Fate gave me you."

                                                                                ***

They played it to soothe Tina when she gave birth.

You'll never know dear, how much I love you...

"You are so strong," Newt kissed Tina's forehead.

"He's beautiful," Tina cooed at the baby that she was cradling in her arms.

Newt smiled at the sight & he silently thanked Fate.

                                                                                ***

Newt sang it to Tina as he died in her arms.

"Newt!" Tina gasped as Newt collapsed into her arms & they fell to the ground.

"Shh, it's okay, darling," Newt kissed her hand.

"No, no!" Tina didn't stop the tears coming from her eyes.

Newt looked down to his torso, which was soaked with blood.

"Darling, it's what Fate wants."

"Screw Fate!" Tina sobbed. "Please, don't go."

Newt softly started to sing.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine..."

Tina looked down at his face. He had scars & bruises all over. But he was still handsome as ever. The love of her life.

"You make me happy-" she continued the song, voice cracking. "-when skies are grey."

"You'll never know, dear-" Newt brushed a lock of hair from Tina's face. "-how much I love you."

Newt smiled at her, opening his mouth to sing the last line.

And his hand dropped from her face as his eyes went dull.

Tears continuing to fall, Tina kissed his brow.

"Please don't take my sunshine away."

A/N

This concept has always been so sad to me.

I hope you cried! If you didn't, I need to try harder.

(Sorry it's short.)
