I felt a soft, moisturized hand touch my forearm. I opened my swollen eyelids and saw nothing but blur like my eyes were filled with tears. "Mom?" I turned my head and saw my beautiful girl Lacey. Her brown curly puffed out everywhere, her dark, smoky eyes popped out and her gorgeous white dress made her skin very tan. Next to her sat Harrison Jr., and it appeared to me that he was most likely sleeping. His black hair was unkempt and sticking up, his khaki skinny jeans were stained with food (he hasn't washed those in two months) and his black v-neck shirt stuck to him tan skin.

"Hey sweetheart. What are you doing here?"

"We can as soon as the police called our school. Carmen picked up us including Ryan. He's at her house." I nod my stiff neck.

"OK. Can you help me to the restroom?" Lacey grabbed my left wrist, which was in a cast, and helped me to the bathroom. I shut the door and started to cry. I wiped my eyes and looked in the mirror to see something I never suspected.

My eyes were blue and black and as big as a basketball, my upper lip was sticking out and had dried blood in a few spots. My nose was blanketed with gauze and was already stained with blood. I felt my neck and felt a deep wound, still somewhat open and blood started dripping from it, falling down onto the hospital gown. I had horrid bruises and cuts all over my body and face. I lifted my buff upper lip and and saw three of my teeth were knocked clean out. My hair was dyed with blood and my mascara had ran down my face; I looked like a ghost.

A knock at the door made me jump. "Mom, you OK?"

"Yeah, I'm OK. I'm almost done." I took a paper town and wiped the mascara off my face so I look somewhat presentable. I felt like a total loser. A useless person. Worthless, unwanted, a horrible person. I'm not sure why. I felt like this was my fault, even though it wasn't. I walked out of the bathroom and limped to my comfy bed and lay down on my weary back. Harrison Jr. was now up with Lacey. As soon as I lay down, Lacey started to bawl her eyes out. "Honey, what's wrong?" I petted her tangled hair.

"Why did he do this? Why is such a bad person?" Lacey said between breaths. I kissed her forehead and reassured her.

"Don't worry. I won't let him hurt you or Harrison Jr. I promise."
