Traffic was greatly reduced compared to earlier today, those are Wednesday for you. I made it to the crime scene in a little over fifteen minutes, as I parked my black ford F150 along the road I was able to see the yellow "don't cross" tape. I stepped out, mentally preparing myself for what I was about to see when from behind a tree came an over weight officer. I moved closer, and just when I was about to lift the tape to cross it he shot his hand out for me to stop.
"Ma'am, what do you think you're doing, do you not see this is a crime scene, only police officer's are allowed past this point."
I stared back for a moment, displeased with the way he assumed I were a nosy civilian, "You had better been taking a piss back there," I said as I pulled out my badge, "because if I find out it was a nap, you have trouble going you're way. FBI, private investigator from internal affairs. Can I go through?" I stated ignoring his rudeness.
The man struggled to speak but eventually said, "yes ma'am, this way." He lifted the plastic barior for me and walked along side me to where Adam knelt.
Adam Jones is a well built man, mid thirties and in good shape, especially when he kneels like now. Nevermind. He is the big guy in charge right now and followed by his squadmen, well more like squadgirls, they prefer to lighten the scenery by goofing around and making up jokes around the hazzard zones, I don't blame them but they tend to forget their limits, or should I say my limits.
My trail of thought is disturbed as Adam stands to the sounds of my footing. "Isabelle, glad you made it. Come here take a look at this."
"Glad I can help." I said thick with sarcasm. I moved over to where he knelt again, as I crouched down he pointed to stains of blood, three smudges caught on the leaves of a low plant. Johnny says the thing that killed our victim walked this way, and crossed the road to the other side of the woods."
"Thing?" I repeated.
"Yes, we're not quite sure what exactly did it yet, I say it was a chupacabra."
"I'm sorry, a what?" I said trying to keep a straight face.
"Chupacabra, the goat killer, the mysterious creature that-"
"Yeah, I know what it is," I told him, "I just wanted to make you hear you're self, and how retarded it sounds."
Adam looked at me loosing all enthusiasm, if you can call it that.
I cleared my throat, "with all do respect I mean."
"Ask the rest, their down the trail just follow the yellow taped line." he said as he took out a note pad and wrote on it, "I'll catch up in a bit."
"Alright." I walked down scanning along the way, there was obvious evidence that a large clomsy animal had walked down the very same direction, creasing plant stems, crumpling them to the loosened dirt. Then something caught my eye, as I slowed I could swear the flattened vegetation was do to a human foot, I knelt down and carefully pealed away the dead plant to find an almost identical human foot shaped dent on the ground. I took out my own note pad and wrote it down. I placed the plant back the way it was and examined the sorrounding area finding odd scratch marks, it would have been unnoticed do to the fact that I had been blended into the fallen leaves but right on lossened dirt it looks odd, not natural. I stood up and moved down the way.
The girls were scattered around a white covered body, assuming its the victim. Nathan was the first to see me but David was the one that spoke.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the teachers pet, took you long enough princes."
Raising an eyebrow at his childish remark I decided to put a stop to the jokes before they began by replying with, "I am in no way a teachers pet, and just so we're clear, I'm no fucking princes to be called one. If any of you have jokes to crack go to clown school, get a masters and fund a show on Disney, and leave me the fuck alone."
