August 29th, 2051.

Aka, today. The day of... How should I put this? Reckoning? Sure, the day of Reckoning. Of course, I understand how this whole mess came to be, but did it have to be like this? I don't even know what this is... it looks unnatural, foreign, and it feels strange, even... inhumane?

I let out a long sigh as my guard and I descended the metal elevator into the depths of this building they now called 'Project Revelation.' I don't know what it was, maybe the stench of this place, or maybe the ominous sounds coming from below, made my stomach churn, and I gulped as the elevator finally came to a stop after what felt to me like hours.

As we stepped into the dark room, a wave of fear seemed to overcome me and for the first time, I tried to fight against fate.

"Let me go!" I yelled as the rows and rows of pods came into view. "I don't wanna be here!"

The guard ignored me, and I began examining the room as we walked deeper into it, taking in the dozens of coffin-like boxes neatly stacked on shelves, and tensed as I saw the multiple wires connecting each one. Whatever they were doing here, I did not want to be a part of it, but I probably don't have a choice at this point.

Soon, a small silhouette came into view, sitting in a chair before a multitude of monitors. It turned as we approached it, revealing the scientist in charge of the project. A glimmer of recognition flickered in his eyes as he saw me, and I tensed, trying to ready myself for whatever would come next.

"It's you," he stated in his normal, annoyingly sweet voice.

"Yea," I muttered, avoiding his gaze. "Surprised?"

"Not really," he replied calmly. "I never really trusted you, even if he did."

I frowned. "Why?"

He simply nodded and turned back to his monitor, leaving me standing in the middle of the room, confused, as he dismissed the guard. I jumped as one of the capsules on a nearby shelf let out a hiss as it opened, revealing the complex system of wires that I now suddenly recognized. In that instant, I knew what was happening here. They were using this masterpiece, this magnificent work of engineering, for this?

But then, it also did make sense. That's why I was never told about the true purpose of this thing. That's why so many files were confidential. That's why there were so many secrets. That's why I was recruited in the first place. Oh, I swear, that bastard is going to pay for this.

He finally turned back to me and gestured towards the chamber that had just opened, looking at me expectantly.

"You've always been an obedient one," he said when he saw me hesitate, "despite your... past. So we can do this the hard way, or you can comply. I assume you do recognize it, after all. You've experienced it many times before today. You know what it does."

"I do," I answered, not moving from where I still stood. I considered turning and making a run for it, but I knew I had no chance. This is fate and I suppose I should accept it. Reluctantly, I stepped up to the chamber and awkwardly laid down, handcuffs still on, bracing myself for what I knew would be Procedure One.

Next thing I knew, I woke up on my living room couch. Confused, I glanced out the window at the seemingly desolate city surrounding me.

What even happened here?
