My fanfiction will follow the books the mortal instruments then the TV series but I may do a mixture of both. You can picture the characters as the cast of the show or from the books up to you.
I'll also use the same ages in the TV series then in the books. So they are all 18-20 years old... well besides Magnus of course who may look young but is very old 🤣
