[Your POV]
"so far, so good," i muttered to myself, since I haven't ran into anyone in the halls. I hated having to talk to people. to be honest, I was just afraid to say anything that would worsen my reputation as it is and it was all thanks to stacey and her dirty little mouth. Troy didn't help either. he hasn't left me alone ever since I accidentally spilled milk all over his hair during third grade's picture day. i swear she and troy are conspiring against me.
I kept my head low while walking to my seat in the back of the class. the bell rang, and just in time, as the final bunch of kids ran to their seats as mr. clarke began his lesson, setting down a plastic brain.
"meet... the human brain. i know. i know, it doesn't look like much. a little gross..."
as he kept talking about the billions of cells there are in the human brain, almost everyone in the class had started to tune out. i heard the pop of gum, the tapping of pencils on desks, and saw notes being passed around.
just another typical school day.
just then, the door opened and closed with a loud bang as the principal and a girl with bright red hair walked in, jolting everyone's interest.
oh?
not a typical school day anymore.
"ah, this must be our new student!" mr. clarke said joyfully, gesturing to the girl."indeed. all yours," the principal said. not even a moment after and she had started heading towards the back of the class.
"all right, hold up," mr. clarke said, raising his arm, "you don't get away that easy."
the red-headed girl stopped in her tracks, a look of annoyance laced her eyes.
i knew how she felt. i was the new kid here too, which absolutely sucks. especially if you come late into the year.
she caught my eye and i mouthed, 'he does this with every new student.'
she rolled her eyes and turned around swiftly, walking back to his desk at the front of the class.
"come on up, don't be shy. dustin, drum roll," he said, nodding towards the curly haired kid.
dustin shut his textbook closed and made a light drum roll. it was so soft, i could barely hear it from my desk.
"class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California, the latest passenger..." mr. clarke went on, the new girl seeming more and more annoyed and uncomfortable the longer she was up there. she looked at me again, raising her eyebrows. i shook my head, a way of saying that there was no way out of it.
"...maxine!"
"it's max."
"i'm sorry?" mr. clarke asked,
"well, all aboard max!"
max, the new girl, finally headed to the back of the class. i gestured to the seat next to me, being empty and all. she gave me a tight-lipped smile, setting her bag down as mr. clarke continued his lesson.
i focused on his lesson again, looking up to take notes. that's when i noticed the four boys in the front staring at max's direction. i glanced at max who was oblivious to the creepy stares due to her looking outside the window.when i faced the boys again, they had already turned to each other, probably talking about her.
oh boy. max is in for a real ride
