I said I had a lot of stories in production

so here's a sneak peek for one of them

The wooden steps creaked and echoed through the air as she made her way to the basement. It wasn't exactly pleasant, cobwebs and dust matting bookshelves and stacks of paper that had been left in there for too long. She stopped on the last step and remembered the job; get the 2007 yearbook and go.

How Ms. Millith had said the word go gave her the creeps, unsteady anxiety crawling up her spine as she looked over the surrounding room.

She swallowed and stepped off the step, immediately beginning her search for the yearbook.

Her first place to check was an old shelf lined with cracks and dust from age. Most of the books seemed ripped or damp almost.

She whispered the titles of each book, searching for the one Ms. Millith desired.

Dictionaries, Cat in the Hat, Dr. Suess, The Yearbook of...

She stopped when she reread the cover. Yearbook of 2004. She brushed away the dust and noticed a row of nearly identical yearbooks beside it. She began to read the titles of each.

Yearbook of 2004, 2005.. 2006, The Yearbook of 2007.

She pushed the surrounding books away and yanked at the one she had found. A cobweb hung from the shelf above it as she pulled it out fully. She was quick to get to her feet and start towards the stairs, not wanting to spend any longer underground.

Then on the third step, she stopped herself. She looked down at the yearbook in her arms, wondering what was so important about it.

Hesitantly, she sat down on the step and opened the book.

She flipped through the pages until she reached the sixth grade. The missing class of 2007.

She looked over the pictures. Every face was crossed out with an ashy like powder. She tried to wipe it away, but it stayed in place. A faint mist rose from the untouchable material, though she didn't notice.

What she did notice was the one face that hadn't been crossed out.

It was the face of a female american, with green blue-eyes and short, dark brown hair with a faint hazel colored hue. Below the picture was the name; Sasha Collins. The first of the 24 kids to go missing.

She read the page for a moment longer. Sasha's section was the only one readable. All the others were crossed off. Two words were scratched into the book and circled. Dark. Myth.

She decided to turn to the back of the book, only then noticing one hanging loose. She pulled it out, realizing it was a police report, information about the missing class.

She read the entire page, from the various kids listed, to their birth dates, relatives, homes, and ages. Then it moved on to witnesses, leads, and resources.

Then the last known sightings.

She felt her blood run ice-cold. They were all the same.

Last known sighting: Oakland Academy, basement floor.
