Ch 6
Ada watched as Gideon slowly got in his car and drove off. When he was out of sight Ada turned on Sebastien. "Wanna explain about the eye?" she demanded. Sebastien looked away and Ada crossed her arms. He was going to realize quickly that growing up with Bernie as a best friend meant she learned some of her antics; those being always getting what she wanted.
"Its not a big deal," Sebastien replied. "I think its a big deal, it looks like you ran into someones fist!" Ada exclaimed. "You need to put ice on it," she said as she carefully touched his right eye. It was swelling shut. "I just need a distraction, Ada, I really dont want to talk about it," he said, pulling away from her touch.
"Look I know I dont know you that well but I'm your friend and you can trust me," Ada explained. She didnt try to touch him again. Sebastien looked at her and he sighed. "Thats the problem, I know I can trust you..." he was cut off by his cell phone ringing. He looked at the caller ID and pocketed his phone, ignoring the call,
Ada watched as he looked at her and sighed his brows wrinkling. "Quit doing that," he uttered. "Doing what?" Ada questioned. "Looking at me like I'm something to fix," he replied. "I cant fix what I dont know is wrong," Ada told him. She was going to get to the bottom of what was wrong. "I would tell you but I would have to kill you," he remarked. Ada rolled her eyes. "Fine if you wont tell me who's fist you walked into can we at least just talk? How's Poovey?" she asked. Talking about rabbits seemed to be the one thing that got Sebastien to open up. And maybe at some point he would tell her why she was staring at such a horrible color gracing such a handsome face.
They sat next to each other on a park bench neither talking. Sebastiens phone rang again. "You can answer that you know," Ada spoke. "Gee thanks for the permission but its a personal matter, Id rather not answer with you around," he stated pocketing his phone once again. "Well, thanks so much for that, but it doesnt look like their going to stop calling you so you might as well answer it." she stood up and walked away from the bench. She was half a little perturbed that he didnt want to answer the call around her and half amused.
His phone went off again. "Is this far enough away?" she took another two steps back. Ignoring his ringing phone, Sebastien turned to face her. "Not quite," he said laughing. Ada smiled and took 3 steps back. His phone rang again. "Seriously maybe its important." she vacillated. Sebastien sighed and looked down at his phone again and then this time he answered. Much to Ada's chagrin she really was too far away to hear what was going on but she could read his body language and something wasnt right. He hung up after a minute and then she walked back over to him.
"I trust you but do you trust me?" he asked her. Something didnt feel right with the way he asked but Ada nodded. "Come with me I need your help," .
****
Come with me I need your help was now the last thing that Ada wanted to hear again. She sat in the passenger side of Sebastien's Chrysler in some dinghy neighborhood 45 minutes away in Bourlo. She was highly uncomfortable and really didnt want Sebastien to leave her alone when he parked the car and told her he would be right back.
Ada idly played with her phone. She really should have told Bernie where she was. Just in case all that showed up in a few weeks was a decomposed body. She stared down the door that just moments before, Sebastien had walked through. As if she was magic, he walked out of it, a blonde woman and a tall male following her. However the blonde didnt make it to far before the tall man stopped and lifted his arm and a loud bang of a gunshot emitted.
Ada jumped, eyes wide and then she felt goose bumps erupt on her arms. She just watched someone be shot. Sebastien took her to watch someone be slain right before her eyes. She tried calming herself down and thats when she heard Sebastien yelling at the tall man.
"You werent supposed to kill her until AFTER we got the address you fucking idiot!" he snapped. He knelt down and picked the blonde up, slinging her over his shoulder. He took off walking to the car the tall man following him. Ada was frozen. What was happening!
Ada, eyes still wide followed as Sebastien walked to the drivers side and opened the back seat and tossed the blonde in like a rag doll. Ada's breath was coming in short spurts. She couldnt help but look at the blonde, blood coming out of a perfect gun shot to the head. She turned to the front and fought tears.
Sebastien got in beside her and Ada jumped as the tall man rapped on her window, ushering her to roll it down. Knowing not what to do, she did as the tall man wanted. "Who's the broad," the tall man demanded. "She's good, she's obviously with me." Sebastien replied. The tall man waved his gun in front of Ada's face, leaning in the window as he did so. Ada swallowed roughly. She just wanted to go home. "Boo!" the tall man said suddenly and she jumped. "The man laughed. "Take care of them both, or I'll do it for you,"the man said and he walked away from the car.
Ada couldn't speak. She tried. Her voice coming out in barely a whisper. "I'll explain," Sebastien said, as he ran a finger across her cheek. She could feel the slickness of the blood on his hands being transfered to her face,; like warpaint. She said nothing. Not even sure she could even if she tried any harder.
