"Murder wasnt on my agenda tonight!" Ada exclaimed as she paced in front of Bernie. Bernie was eerily calm about the whole ordeal leaving Ada to be even more pent up about it. She had just told her best friend that she was an accomplice to murder and she didnt even flinch. "It's usually on my agenda on Thursdays when they have retro night at the arcade," Bernie said absentmindedly.
"Hello! I just told you I just helped bury a body and you're head is stuck on retro night!" Ada cried out. She collapsed on her couch. THe clock on the wall read 2am. She had to be up for another double shift in less than 4 hours. This was a night from hell.
"Listen, maybe instead of me inviting Zara over for our girls night it should be just us. Where we can go over everything. I'm not quite following," Bernie suggested. "What is there not to follow!?" Ada questioned. "I watched this tall dude completely kill someone point blank. Like PEW right to her dome. And then someone I thought I was falling for totally just scooped up her body, then made me help him dispose of it. How are you not following!" Ada was starting to panic again. "For one who is this tall dude? For two why did he shoot this chick? And three why did Mr Rabbit dude decide that you had to be his accomplice? Theres something missing and we need to figure out what it is," Bernie said excitedly.
"Figure out....Who are you Sherlock Holmes?" Ada asked incredulously. "Come on, Ive seen Sebastien, he's not a killer." Bernie said laughing. Ada threw her hands up in dismay. "Gideon warned me not to go with him, but no I did it anyways and look where it got me!" she started pacing the room again. Bernie followed her every movement with her eyes. "Look I'm not saying he didnt kill anyone, or didnt get rid of the body. All I'm saying is that he looks like a goody two shoes, theres a reason behind why he did it and theres a reason why he wanted you involved" Ada stopped pacing and stared at her friend. "You've completely lost your mind," she stated simply. "Well arent you a little ray of pitch black," Bernie shot back. Ada rolled her eyes.
"Not everything is a puzzle that you can solve Bernadette," Ada huffed. She felt like all she was doing was talking, saying the same things over and over and Bernie just wasnt getting it. Sebastien had forced her into helping hide a body. She was covered in blood and lime and dirt and lord knows what else. And here Bernie was just taking it all in like it was an Episode of Criminal Minds or Forensic Files.
Soon Ada realized she wasnt going to get anywhere with Bernie unless she let Bernie get her way. Bernie wanted to play this like a game....so they would. "We can play by your rules," Ada said crossing her arms. "We find out who he is and what he wants and why he needed me to help him tonight," Bernie clapped her hands in excitement. "Oh I bet he's in the Mafia!" she exclaimed. "Why are you such an ass?" Ada questioned. She really didnt understand her friend, and she probably never would. Bernie smiled. "I mean everyone has to excel in something right?" she replied. Ada groaned.
"He's not Mafia material. He's got freaking bunnies for goodness sake," Ada said a short while later. "Okay what if he's like Green Beret?" Bernie said, staring up at the ceiling. Ada thought about it for a moment. "Way to pretty," was her reply. "Oh how about you charge your phone and ask him if hes Secret Service on a special dope ass mission for the President," Bernie declared sitting up straight. "Sweetie I'm going to need you to gather what remaining brain cells you have left and just work with me here okay?" Ada requested.
"Fine, so we dont ask...we just assume. CIA? FBI? NSA?" Bernie rattled ticking her fingers as she said a name. Ada looked at the clock. Time was flying by and really all she wanted to do was sleep. But her shift started in an hour and she was the only one able to open. "We can congregate after my shift tonight. INvite Zara, we can meet here for popcorn and movies." Bernie shook her head, denying Ada's request. "We cant talk about this with Zara around, thats rule one, or fifteen or something. We have to keep this on the DL," she implored
"You didnt talk to her did you?" Ada surmised. She looked at Bernie and Bernie blushed. "I will when I'm ready right now we have to decide on if hottie McHotStuff is part of the DEA or not." Ada sighed. "Fine, but can you please go home? I need at least 45 minutes of sleep before I open the diner," she pleaded. Bernie got up from the couch and headed to the door. "Peace out, Girl Scout," she said, saluting Ada on the way out.
Ada collapsed once again on the couch, and barely plugged in her phone and set an alarm; ignoring the messages from Sebastien; and she was out like a light.
